Just learning how to FMQ. Was pleased with how it went for the most part. Almost feel ready enough to try FMQ on the quilt for kids I have pieced and sandwiched and ready to go. Going to practice some more first.
This wallhanging was really fun to make. The pictures were "extras" that came with the panel I got from Hobby Lobby. The binding was scraps from some curtains I made. All I really had to buy for this was the background fabric!
The tan outline is my wall - not part of the wallhanging!

Looking good.

I always keep a small piece layered and practice about 10 minutes each time before I FMQ. Then I switch over to the quilt or whatever I'm working on.

what is FMQ. I feel so stupid.

Free motion quilting...quilting on the machine with the feed dogs down and you guide the fabric around

That is very nice!

barbt 12-20-2010 08:12 PM

thank you so much. That makes sense.

Very nice. Wish my fmq looked that good.

Very nice! You'll do great FMQing! It's fun once you get started.

Working on a panel is a great way to start with fmq - I did it after reading a recommendation in a book.
And also like gmaybee above, I always have a "warm up" on a practice piece before every fmq session.

The only way to get good at FMQ is to practice, practice and practice. Pretty wallhanging.
