circle Quilt for DIL

hi there i have had this idea to try and make a circle quilt for my Son and daughter in law. for their Camper. so i got all my circles put together but did not have enough material of the prety bright colors. They were from a monthly layer cake deliverly. so i put them on poing and added the grey and green to make it bigger to fit a Full size bed. so i have it all up on my design wall and now i need to add some borders to inlarge it. any ideas on a color? i am wanting to do 2 colors a smaller inner border and a wider outer border. and with the left over circle material i made 2 pillows, my first time trying to add piping around the edge.

I would do a thin gray border and than a wider red border. I really like your cushions and you did a great job on the binding.

I agree grey n red!!!

nativetexan 02-03-2014 07:27 PM

oh great quilt. and pillows too. same suggestions of border colors from me too. love your quilt! piping, I was just looking at my footstool cover I made years ago thinking I should make another one. maybe this time with piping. my mama cat thinks that stool is hers. she "kills" it all the time. the decorator fabric has held up well. perhaps it's not worth putting piping on.

Grey and red will finish off this beautiful quilt! Wonderful job on the pillows and piping!

I'm with the vote of thin grey, then red.I wanted to tell you that I really like your quilt. It was a "zen" look to it,and with it on point it adds more to the geometric look.I think it will be really lovely when it's completed.I must say too, that to have this piping as your first, quite a great job.I've bought pillows that the piping wasn't as good as this! Thanks for sharing.

fangman 02-05-2014 08:34 AM

I agree, gray and red.

Mariposa 02-05-2014 08:39 AM

I'd go with a thin red border, followed by a larger grey one. Or vice-versa! :)

wraez 02-05-2014 09:14 AM

fabulous cushions, love the asian fabrics ... great quilt, they'll love it. When I think of asian, I think red and black, make it POP

You could always do what I do .. I pin up the colors next to the quilt and come back the next day for a fresh look .. But I am sure whatever color you choose will offset it beautifully ! Good luck

irishrose 02-05-2014 01:48 PM

Okay, I am going against the popular opinion. If you use the gray from the quilt, your triangles will bleed into the border. I would use a narrow border of a dark version of any color from the quilt - like a very dark gray, even black, deep burgundy, or deep green. Then a wide border of your favorite burgundy print. I like the one with the squiggles. I would use a mottled black for the narrow border.
