It's small-maybe 7'x10'. But, it's cozy. I don't have a design wall, but other than that, it works. This room is right off the kitchen, so I use the table there to cut. I could move upstairs--convert a bedroom to my quilting room, but it might be lonely up there.

Oops--forgot this one--it's on top of the bookshelves--planned projects. It gets covered.

Very nice - I am drooling over all the strips and the fabric in that closet!!

quiltnut4ever 02-14-2010 04:39 PM

Loved how u made the arrangements for the jelly rolls! Very cozy in there!

barnbum 02-14-2010 04:40 PM

Jelly rolls? Hmm--what are they? I've never purchased one. Are they strips?? I cut all those babies. I've purchased a few fat quarters, but stick to yardage 98% of the time. The one empty rung will be filled soon--I have a few more to cut up for another floral log cabin.

MaryAnna 02-14-2010 04:46 PM

Just wonderful, I'm drooling over the 'high end' thread...love it! Your space is organized! And I'm jealous that you are downstairs close to the kitchen..my other love! I'm into cooking and baking and the kitchen is the hub for me. I've converted my guest room into my sewing room/guest room. But I'm thinking of getting rid of the bed and just have my sewing room. I do have an aerobed and a sofa bed downstairs...so guests would have a place to lay their heads.
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

barnbum 02-14-2010 04:49 PM

MaryAnna--I vote to get rid of the bed!! :-D Since both kids are in college, I can leave the table full of sewing stuff whenever I need to. Hubby doesn't mind. It's handy. Plus, I can take a break to read emails--and lunch doesn't take any time away from my project.

tlrnhi 02-14-2010 04:50 PM

Hmm....I think I not only need to come play with the horses, but need to play in your stash too! That's a great space you have there! Yummy, yummy stuff!!!

sewnsewer2 02-14-2010 04:55 PM

Very nice! I love your rocking chair spool and pin cushion too.

Great space and that quilt is gorgeous! love the ladders, where did you find them or did you make them or your DH make them for you?

oksewglad 02-14-2010 04:56 PM

Karla--thanks for sharing your sewing room with us--makes me want to clean mine up, too!

blahel 02-14-2010 04:57 PM

lovely space and love your ladder idea!

barnbum 02-14-2010 05:00 PM

sewnsewer--that rocking chair was made by my grandmother's brother for her. Her name is on it. Since I'm the only granddaughter to sew, I was honored to receive it.

skj--the ladders came from my son's antique shop--when he had it at age 13-17 (He started on bikes at age 10, now buys/sells cars.) One is oak, the others pine. I love to use strips--so decided these worked well. I cover the rungs with fabric. My hubby took the last one in the shower with him to get it clean.

oldswimmer 02-14-2010 05:07 PM

Love it barnbum! Great space, and so colorful! How do you keep the ladders up? Are the just set up next to the wall, or do you have something holding them there?
That is so cool, I think I will find a space for a ladder too!

barnbum 02-14-2010 05:08 PM

They are just leaning against the wall--works fine.
I need to change my calendar and use up some stash... I keep trying NOT to buy more.

I love your dogs!!!!

JUNEC 02-14-2010 05:09 PM

I am jealous of not only your sewing room but your stash as well. Can't wait to see the completed project on your ironing board

sewnsewer2 02-14-2010 05:16 PM

Lucky YOU barnbum!!That is so cute!

craftybear 02-14-2010 05:17 PM

You have a nice area to sew and create. How long have you been quilting? You have lots of fabric!

Karen

beachlady 02-14-2010 05:19 PM

Great looking room Karla. Love your ladders - have been looking for one at the auctions, but haven't seen any yet. You are so organized and productive.

beachlady 02-14-2010 05:19 PM

Sorry double post.

stitchesnstaples 02-14-2010 05:25 PM

I would really like your thread collection. I am so jealous. Love your little room and by the kitchen whats not to love.

Marcia 02-14-2010 05:27 PM

Karla---I love your room-it is so cozy and I love that it is right off your kitchen.

Tell us about the quilt on the ironing board.......

barnbum 02-14-2010 05:36 PM

How long have you been quilting? You have lots of fabric!
About 16 years. There are a few issues: 1. I tend to make scrappy projects without the stash--and that makes a lot of stash. 2. I used to buy books when I was stressed, now I buy fabric. 3. For so many years we were so careful about every penny spent--now that's paid off--so I can buy fabric more freely. I told my husband I feel like it's my very merry un-birthday every time I buy fabric. I will use it all--I will. My rule now is nothing gets purchased unless I know exactly what it's for. The project ideas come a lot faster than I can get the projects done. I need to be retired.

Tell us about the quilt on the ironing board.......
I will... when I post them. It's my own design and every piece has a purpose/reason. There are four tops nearly done...then I hope to get them quilted this week. Maybe.

How did you get the gutterman thread caddy?

Awesome room. Mine is twice that size but oh so much more cluttered!!!

lots2do 02-14-2010 05:41 PM

LOve your cozy, colorful space! The ladders are just perfect. Would love to squeeze one into my space.
Thanks for sharing,
lots2do

barnbum 02-14-2010 05:43 PM

How did you get the gutterman thread caddy?
Joanne's--on sale at Christmas time...it was under my tree. I bought it for hubby to give me. If I remember correctly, it was $70 for all that!! It's the kind my machine likes best.

Jim's Gem 02-14-2010 06:09 PM

You have a nice room there Karla!!!
You certainly have beautiful creations coming out of there on a regular basis!!

barbmike678 02-14-2010 06:16 PM

Nice ... small is ok ... better than not having a room at all. It is hard when you have to pick everything up and put it all away every time.

Nice Stash!!!! Bravo!!!! My kinda girl!!!

littlehud 02-14-2010 06:28 PM

What a wonderful sewing room. I am envious.

barnbum 02-14-2010 06:54 PM

Mine is twice that size but oh so much more cluttered!!!
I don't let it get too cluttered--or I can't stay organized. I pulled everything out today to clean--as in dust it thoroughly. Hubby vacuums and is afraid to go in there. I try to spot check it, but a few times a year, it needs to be nearly bare to be cleaned.

I thing if I had a bigger room it'd tend to get more cluttered because I could--there's no room to allow that to happen here.

redquilter 02-14-2010 07:04 PM

Great room. Love that it's off the kitchen. But I think you need more fabric :!:

nursie76 02-14-2010 07:10 PM

Love how you have everything organized yet easily accessible. Isn't the Guttermann thread great? Hubby got me that thread collection for Christmas too! Nina (my machine) likes it best too! what type of machine do you have?

dkabasketlady 02-14-2010 07:45 PM

Great sewing room, I'm envious!!!

JEM65 02-14-2010 08:29 PM

Having a space just for our quilting is so fabulous! You have a warm and inviting workspace to enjoy. Lucky You!

jewelps 02-14-2010 10:49 PM

OMG i wish i had that much fabric, i would be having a lot of fun, i am jealous, lucky you

JanetM 02-14-2010 11:04 PM

It's so great to be able to dedicate a space for sewing. I am totally impressed with your thread (you have them all!) and your fabric and fabric strips. I think you are ready for anything. Your quilt on the ironing board is great.

omak 02-14-2010 11:57 PM

Thank you for the tour! I like it! <wave>

amma 02-15-2010 01:31 AM

Very pretty sewing room!!! I love how you have everything so organized :D:D:D

ConnieF 02-15-2010 02:19 AM

love the ladders that are holding all the strips. Nancy Zieman does that in her sewing studio. Nice stacks of fabrics and love the blues and the black and whites.... Very nice... wish mine was that clean.
