The Colour of the Forest- SAQA Entry

This piece is totally quilted. The background is woven and the leaves are hand painted. 40x30
It's been hanging around my neck for about six months now. I worked from a theme and not an image. That's way out of my comfort zone.
I think I'll hibernate now.
Until something catches my eye.
Enjoy!

Yes, a little hibernation is due, but just a wee one ... and then you can awe us with something else! :D

It's stunning. Please give more details about your process. I'm intrigued.

Please share how to weave. It looks amazing!

Weaving the background.

This is what it sounds like. Woven cloth. 1 inch strips of commercial cotton were passed through a bias tape shaper and starch pressed. Then slowly (over 2 weeks actually) it was constructed. Colour changes are simple. Cut and insert another colour with a drop of fabric cement to anchor the change.
The whole piece was assembled over top a layer of stronger fusible material. As a finish, the whole piece is stitched so there are no loops to get caught.
I almost made this into a bag.

Oh, wow, amazing patience you must have!

Yes, they are double sided: two materials fused (primarily to prevent fraying), one line of stitches over a thick backing with a little twist here and there, makes them flare. Thanks

What a fantastic idea for the background. Beautiful piece.

Very nice. Weaving is a lot of work. (And wiggles around a lot). :-). Very, very nice!!

Picking my jaw up off the floor. As with all your work this is so stunning. Still in awe you wove the the background. I have a kit for doing placemats that way (different prep method for the strips) and still haven't worked up the nerve to get started on it.
