Comfort and Blessings

This was a free block of the week by Piecing the Past Quilts. It started about this time last year. They specialize in Civil War Quilts but I worked from my batik stash. Love the way it turned out. I did make it smaller by having 1" sashing instead of 2" sashing. It is the first and last time I have used wool batting.

Turned out beautiful. The batiks look so bright against the white.
|
That is beautiful! You did wonderful work.
|
Oh one inch sashings were definitely enough. wonderfully beautiful quilt!!

How beautiful!!! Sampler quilts are always a winner with me, and I LOVE the colors and fabrics you chose. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Absolutely beautiful. Great contrast. The colors just pop!

Stunning quilt...love the batiks you chose. At first glance, I thought the quilt was hung from the roof.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/shock.png Now I see it is on a fence top with the roof behind.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

Nice! What a pretty quilt.
|
Splendid quilt Toverly...the quilting nicely sets off the blocks.

Thank y'all for the kind words. This one was a bear to quilt. It's the first and last time I use wool batting. Kudos to y'all who use wool. My Juki 201q did not like it. I tried to stick to similar colors as the sampler. If it used red and blue, I used whatever red and blue I had closest to it. I figured they had already worked out which block went next to which block, I just followed along. Completely from my stash.

Your quilt is very pretty.

Very Beautiful quilt. You did a great job on this keeper! Thanks for sharing.
|
Very nice pattern, and great quilting!
|
Love the way it turned out. I love wool batting but all wool batts are not created equal. Maybe yours wasn't a great one.

I was just thinking of adding a layer of wool batting (Hobbs, same as yours) to the Hobbs Fusible for my hand-appliqued quilt. Maybe I should use Poly-Down instead? I wanted to try to add some loft to make the applique stand out, but I also plan to quilt the plain blocks with formal feather wreaths and I want the extra definition from the higher loft. I'd love to know what problems you ran into and how you got around them if you feel like writing about it. Thank you so much, and again, I'm sorry it gave you a headache. |
That’s gorgeous. Well done!

[QUOTE=thepolyparrot;8470085]Oh no! I'm very interested in hearing more about this, but I'm sorry you had such trouble with it. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/frown.png

When I was sewing on binding, the needle glided thru the wool so easy. I free motion quilted using Aurifil (my favorite). To me the wool batting was inconsistent thru out. Some areas were bunched and some were thing. I don't know how old the batting was, I purchased from a friend. It seemed to grab the needle and my juki made wierd sounds. , I was using a hopping foot. The thread shredded in places. I would change the needle often. I was using just wool. I have friends who use cotton and wool in show quilts, the quilting shows up beautifully. But then, I am impatient with quilting and just want to get it done. My cat seems to be the winner in it all. She loves to curl up on the extra batting cut from the sides. |
That's gorgeous!
I love wool batting and have used it layered with an 80/20 batting and alone. I think you should give it another try on something small before you write it off. It gives such wonderful depth. Watson |
Your work with that pattern is stunning!

Beautiful, so many different colors to make a very colorful quilt.
