Well I have found out that the minute you make an origanal thing it is copyrighted. ( Excuse the spelling errors) but for added protection you can take detailed photos, put them in an envelope and mail it to you. this proves you make in and the date on the envelope set a permant record of the date but don't open the envelope or it won't count. I now have 7 animals and I thought you ming what to see them with my new baby. she\he don't eat or cry and I don't have to change dipers(got to love plastic babys) anyway (I will be Hopefully selling Kits in November. wish me luck) I am going to sell to a small store and see how it goes.

Those quilts are more adorable than any word I know! Hooray for your wonderful idea! And just a thought--Copyright will be the best way to be sure the pattern stays exclusively yours. Until you do, print out the pages here in the message board that your pictures and our letters appear in. Your printer should date the printout for you, and this will prove that the sweet Moos belong to You! Excellent work! How proud you must be

Good luck to you. Those are adorable.

You do know that a copyright is nothing by itself. You have to be prepared to go to court to enforce it,
And sadly, now that you have posted them here, there are probably people out there copying already!

Do not post any more of your ideas until you have protected them.

Wonderful. Whenever you complete your copyright, please, please, PLEASE let us know where to purchase the patterns. (You could even PM me). They are just adorable

maryb119 12-19-2012 06:34 AM

Yes you should copyright your patterns! I have published 3 patterns and copyrighted each one by using the copyright office in Washington D.C. There is a charge for it. Check with the website to see how much. You fill out the paperwork, send a copy of your pattern and a check for the fee and mail it in. It will take about 6 months or so but you will receive the copyright papers on it. It is always best to protect your design. You worked hard to perfect it and you should have the recognition that goes with it. It is illegal to copy any published patterns!

catladyquilts 12-19-2012 06:55 AM

those are adorable, definitely do the copyright.

feline fanatic 12-19-2012 07:04 AM

Mailing it to yourself does NOT copyright. You are horribly mis-informed and your original animal throws have no protection, especially now that you have posted them in a public domain website. Anyone can copy them now. Additionally your instructions on how to assemble are really the only thing that can be copyrighted. The design of an animal quilt other people have already come up with (I've seen turtles and bears). Please do as the others have suggested and pay the fee and register them with the US copyright office. BTW this only protects you in the US. There are many foreign countries that do not recognize US copyright law and blatently pirate copyrighted material. Just so you know.
