I brought this book and all the required materials back in 1990. Just last year I started working on it. As of this past April I have one block appliqued except the embroidery. Have anyone heard of this quilt from Intercourse, PA? When I saw it at the Old Country Store Quilt Shop at the time, I just have to have one. Also, I'm wondering if I'm to do the embroidery on it before being put together into a quilt top. I will attempt to attach the pictures and here goes.

I've done the embroidery on the first block. It was easier than I thought. Thank you for suggesting to do the embroidery first.

My first complete block with embroidery.

I just downloaded some free applique blocks today - can't wait to do them one day... This is nice

You did a lovely job on your applique! I'm not sure about the embroidery, but am thinking you should do it before you put the blocks together.

I would do the embroidery before putting it together. I would think that it would be easier that way. I have some applique and i fully completed each block. It will be a lovey quilt when done. your applique looks great.

Very pretty...looks like a lot of work! Way out of my league!! Looks like a project that could take a while to complete, but what a masterpiece when you do.

Wow! Very pretty! I think embroidery first too.

jbsstrawberry 07-25-2008 08:39 PM

That's beautiful!! Yep, I'd embroider first too!!

I bought that book many years ago. Unforotunately it was one of many books I had to leave behind when I came to Spain to live. You just canīt take everything. I had forgotten the name of the book and I am so happy that you have posted because the quilts in there are to die for. So so beautiful. I didnīt have a clue as to how to go about it then but now I do, will have to search Amazon for the book just to drool over the quilts.

Your quilt will be amazing and as everyone has advised the embroidery is next (now i no what I am doing in quilting) Keep posting your blocks and let us see your progress. Really well done with this one.

Very pretty, I'm going to have to look up that book now. I'm really getting interested in the applique process. Still newbie in that learning curve. :D

Oooooooooo that's gonna be pretty. I can't wait to see it done

beachlady 07-26-2008 06:56 AM

Going to be a beautiful quilt!!!

Quik-Yes, you do the embroidery BEFORE you sandwich the quilt. Your applique is fabulous. Looks like you have the technique down pat. I love Intercourse and the Old Country Store-the quilts are to die for!! Have you been upstairs to the museum too?

Ah great! Thanks for all the replies and encouragement. Other than learning the applique techique in the beginner quilting class back in 1988, this is my first applique quilt. I have always love hand stitching so this may be came natural to me. I will work on the embroidery part before I put together the quilt (that maybe another year or so). Good thing I asked you experts. The book doesn't say anything about the embroidery, I'm going by what's on the picture. I just love instructions with pictures.

This seems like a big project to me, sometimes I get overwhelmed. I sure would like to get it done someday. I will try to keep up-to-date pics in the future.

Thank you all.

Spectacular applique! You're doing a great job. That's going to be a beauty!

sewnsewer2 07-26-2008 02:58 PM

You do beautiful work!

Yes, I would do the embroidering before you quilt it.

Butterflyspain 07-26-2008 10:36 PM

Hi everyone, I posted earlier that I could not bring this particular book with me when I left to live in Spain. To all of you out there who might want this book I found it on AMAZON.COM and in the used book section I bought it for 0.74 pence. That is Sterling. I think that would equate to about just over a dollar. I could not believe my luck. It really has some spectacular quilts in it.

QUIK- the block is so pretty and yes you do the hand work before quilting. Please remember to rinse any dark embroidery threads, especially the reds - they do bleed...

Susan, I have only one block quilted except the embroidery which I will be working on soon. So I have four more like that. I'm working on the second block right now.

Celeste 07-29-2008 12:39 PM

That is a beautiful quilt and you've done an amazing job on the block you've done! I anxiously await more of your blocks to drool over!
