A couple little quilts

My brain typically fights with making scrappy quilts because everything is supposed to work together - in a perfect world. These are small enough which made for a good exercise in dealing with that issue ha ha. The quilt with the orange is a pattern called Creme Brulee and I used a layer cake of Eclectic Elements by Tim Holtz, the orange is a grunge. The other is a pattern called Hot Cross Stars and I used fabrics from my stash. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful quilts! Organized scrappy quilts are beautiful, too. How do you like "scrappy" now that you have done them?

Mumto2 01-25-2022 07:11 PM

They are both lovely!

Lovely quilts and I think Creme Brûlée is my favourite!

Both are wonderful scrappy quilts. I love the Eclectic Elements fabric collection you chose to go with the orange grunge. Great job.

I like the challenge of training the brain to work differently. Making scrappy quilts has been fun and I actually look forward to starting another one. Thank you all for your comments.

They are both beautiful but I especially like the Hot Cross Stars. I do a lot of string type quilts and that pattern would be perfect! Thanks for sharing and giving me another idea for my scraps.

I have a hard time doing scrappy quilts but am learning as the scrap pile is overflowing LOL I love both of your quilts and do tend to lean towards organized scrappy as you presented.

I have come to love scrappy quilts, as long as they have a unifying color as yours do. You've made me excited about making one!

RedGarnet222 01-26-2022 09:40 AM

I admire your determination to tackle the scraps. I wish I had time to do that too. Your star quilt is really extraordinary.

Polliwog 01-26-2022 09:44 AM

Wow! Your work is so inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing.

My favorite quilts are scrappy, just throw everything in it!

Your talents are so evident in these quilts. Fantastic!

They're both fantastic. I'm really drawn to the Creme Brûlée- the way you've worked with the Tim Holtz fabrics to achieve the illusion of transparent layers is amazing!

Check out those points…great job and the grunge one has such depth with all the natural fabrics ….Loved looking at it. 👍👍

Thank you Rob for your comment. I was drawn to that particular layer cake several years ago but never knew what to do with it until I saw a quilt made with them last year in a show.

I really like the creme brûlée quilt the best. I too have a very hard time with scrappy it just doesn’t compute for my brain. Don’t get me wrong I think they’re beautiful once I see what someone else has put together I just can’t seem to do it properly. That’s probably why my scraps have just exploded! Maybe one day soon I’ll challenge myself to do a small one to start.

Currently I'm making Carpenter Wheel blocks. Each one has 64 - 2.5" square pieces, 52 of which are half square triangles. After making all those half square pieces, I mix them up, put them in a very large bag, shake well, then randomly pull out - without looking - the required number to make the block. Unless I grab like fabrics, I just go with it, seems to help overcome the brain trying to make everything match. Maybe give it a try, start small enough though.
