That's what I call this pattern! I just was looking for a way to use up tons of leftover HST's. The next pic is on the design wall showing the corner treatment I'll use with the pink striped border, but the white HST's at the corner will be removed. Was just trying those out. I like the strong black/white graphics as cornerstones. Hope you enjoy my scrappy! I love it so far. :-D :-D :-D

I'll finish it off with these cornerstones.

n2--in looking at the 1st pic a 2nd time I noticed the secondary pattern of on point squares with strips in the middle (horizontal and vertical). How clever! My mind says to take that center "shoo fly" block and turn the HST's, but your creative way changes the look of the whole quilt. G

Thanks everyone so much! Sure appreciate that!! You know taking a pic in the direct sunlight is not too good so I have a better one now that I just took indoors so you can see it better. It came together so nice and all sunlight distorted the secondary pastel blocks. Hope this is better! :-D

I put this together focusing on the secondary patterns and this inside pic does justice

I really like your quilt. I have to say I haven't seen that pattern before.

kheliwud 08-07-2011 06:27 PM

Love the strong diagonal! I will file this as inspiration for my next scrappy! Thanks!

quiltsRfun 08-07-2011 06:29 PM

Looks great! I'll have to remember this one since I've got several quilts on my list that will leave me a bunch of leftover HSTs.

I don't know if there is a name for this pattern but I found the Courthouse Steps nice but boring so I beefed it up. I have what seems like a thousand HST's collected over the yrs. of sewing leftover from projects so this is one of a few quilts I am using them up in. I got the idea thinking about a quilt I had seen yrs. ago by Bonnie Hunter where she added HST's at the end of each braid. Well, I thought the same thing would work great at the end of any type block with logs like log cabins, courthouse steps, rail fence, etc. It truly was a great way to use a dozen HST's in each block, but I still have hundreds left over! Thank you, mzmama!! :-D :-D :-D

Yes, remember this one and there's another one I'm working on just to use the HST's and it's called Next Door Neighbor so you might want to think about that one too! Thanks, quiltsRfun!!! :-D :-D :-D ;)

Thanks, G, it's going slow on that quilt as the blocks are so tiny but looking forward to finishing it! I think I see what you were saying about 'shoo fly' blocks, but it was more fun creating a secondary pattern!! Ideas are just brimming now with HST's! I thought of another original idea to use them! More ideas than time. lol. lol. :-D :-D :-D

That's a hard question! I'm in love with lots of colors and lots of quilt patterns. I'll go with blue and HST's. I think Kaffe Fassett showed us all how quilts with small shapes (like HST's) equal great looking quilts! I think the formula is a great pattern shape plus the right color equals a great scrappy! Two of my favorite scrap quilts are the Double Sawtooth and the Wonky Pineapple I've done so far. But the Wonky Stars and Wonky Snowballs is coming in a close second! Thanks, TammyD, and be sure and check out my post on "My Favorite Scrappies", part I and part II! You'll find lots of inspiration there!

Thanks everyone for your lovely compliments!!
