split rail fence would look nice...

Phannie1 08-07-2011 03:09 PM

With prints this large, I would do some fussy cuts and use large blocks and binding. I would want show off the prints.

Can you show me a picture of one or tell me where I could look at one.

Cute fabric. I almost bought some just like the other day at Mary Jo's.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-81908-1.htm tutorial

The first 3 are some pictures of 10 minute blocks and various layouts for them. They use nice big pieces that would work great with your fabrics.

The 4th one is a tutorial if case you aren't familiar with how to create them.

Fast, easy and show off large prints. Have fun!

That's really neat fabric!

How about adding some bandana material?

Hobby Lobby has several colors.

I don't remember if Wal-Mart does or not.

Don't remember seeing it in the LQS's here.

Maybe Joanne's or Hancocks.

I have some neat brown bandana that I picked up a while back. Plan on using it for a boy quilt.

This is definitely not a 10 minute block for me. Had to pick it aloose five times and the points still do not match. Approximately three hours with cutting, sewing and ironing. What do you think?

I am doing a quilt for my GS with large print sports fabrics and am going to alternate a large print block with a 9 patch in coordinating colors. I can strip piece the 9 patches so it will go together quickly.

Sewfine 08-07-2011 05:02 PM

#5 seems more of my speed. Now I just need to figure out what size too cut the blocks.

Jingle 08-07-2011 05:11 PM

No ideas for a pattern, perfect Boy fabric.

PamB8s 08-07-2011 05:22 PM

How cute is that fabric. Love it. Can't wait to see the finished product.

moonwork42029 08-07-2011 06:05 PM

On the 10 minute block, I think a "solid" always shows off any small "misses" on a point -- more than a pattern does.

I took a long time with the first ones I did too, but then all of a sudden things clicked and it became easy.

Ok, I will try another one tomorrow.

Try the TAKE 5 pattern or EXPRESSIONS.

As I own several western-themed restaurants I am always scoping out cowboy fabrics for wallhangings, etc. 3 great sources include Gruber's quilt shop (waite park), Bay Window Quilts (perham) and Wadena Ben Franklin. If you shop online at all, the first two are worth any hassle and the staff at all three will jump thru hoops to help you! please post finished project pix; can't wait to see it;)

debcavan 08-08-2011 06:45 AM

Big blocks to show off the prints. If you cut it up, you will not be able to tell those are boots.

amma 08-08-2011 10:54 AM

What about a horizontal strip quilt? Cut the strips and use the same layout as in your picture. Maybe cut the blue strips a bit narrower than the two brown fabrics. :D:D:D

QuiltingKrazy 08-08-2011 10:58 AM

I would say find one more piece of fabric with a horse and make that your center block and focal point! I have used the same boot fabric in a quilt for my DH.

Check this out. I could use the Endless Summer pattern from MacBeth's Past Project (Allpeoplequilting) and find a nice sashing. Then do a silhouette of a cowboy in four corners of the sashing.

Wouldn't this bandana material look great with that fabric?

http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/inde...oduct_ID=45322

and it's only $4.25 a yard!

Rope fabric would look great too:

They both would look good with the fabric I have. I was telling one of my co-workers about finding this fabric and lunch. Then I get this message, and show her your response and she laugh.

AlienQuilter 08-09-2011 03:51 PM

LOL!

Looking forward to pictures when you are finished.
