Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Once again I need advice on what quilt to make with this fabric for my 4 y/o GS. I need something easy and quick.
Cowboy fabric |
split rail fence would look nice...
|
With prints this large, I would do some fussy cuts and use large blocks and binding. I would want show off the prints.

They use nice big pieces that would work great with your fabrics. The 4th one is a tutorial if case you aren't familiar with how to create them. Fast, easy and show off large prints. Have fun! |

That's really neat fabric!
How about adding some bandana material? Hobby Lobby has several colors. I don't remember if Wal-Mart does or not. Don't remember seeing it in the LQS's here. Maybe Joanne's or Hancocks. I have some neat brown bandana that I picked up a while back. Plan on using it for a boy quilt. |
Maybe you can get some ideas from these posts:

I am doing a quilt for my GS with large print sports fabrics and am going to alternate a large print block with a 9 patch in coordinating colors. I can strip piece the 9 patches so it will go together quickly.

No ideas for a pattern, perfect Boy fabric.
|
How cute is that fabric. Love it. Can't wait to see the finished product.

On the 10 minute block, I think a "solid" always shows off any small "misses" on a point -- more than a pattern does.
I took a long time with the first ones I did too, but then all of a sudden things clicked and it became easy. |

As I own several western-themed restaurants I am always scoping out cowboy fabrics for wallhangings, etc. 3 great sources include Gruber's quilt shop (waite park), Bay Window Quilts (perham) and Wadena Ben Franklin. If you shop online at all, the first two are worth any hassle and the staff at all three will jump thru hoops to help you! please post finished project pix; can't wait to see it;)

Big blocks to show off the prints. If you cut it up, you will not be able to tell those are boots.
|
What about a horizontal strip quilt? Cut the strips and use the same layout as in your picture. Maybe cut the blue strips a bit narrower than the two brown fabrics. :D:D:D
|
I would say find one more piece of fabric with a horse and make that your center block and focal point! I have used the same boot fabric in a quilt for my DH.

Check this out. I could use the Endless Summer pattern from MacBeth's Past Project (Allpeoplequilting) and find a nice sashing. Then do a silhouette of a cowboy in four corners of the sashing.

Wouldn't this bandana material look great with that fabric?
http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/inde...oduct_ID=45322 and it's only $4.25 a yard! Rope fabric would look great too: http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/inde...rchsubmitted=1 |
