I have that issue too and was admiring that quilt. Now that I have seen yours I need to start collecting fabric to do one. :)

Awesome quilt with the bright colors. What size is the center block and width of strips? I have a lot of bright scraps leftover from my I Spy quilts and this would make a great way to use some of them up. Thanks for sharing.

I love bright quilts and this one stands out so beautifully. I think the white edges make it even "fresher"? spring like? I always think Black around bright colors, more like stained glass but this is a whole new way of thinking it for me.. and I love it!

The center block is 1" (finished) and the strips are 1" (finished), also. Each log cabin block is 5" (finished). Hope this helps!

Hi.....I just found my magazine and looked up the pattern for this quilt. I hadn't realized that it was a paper pieced pattern. Did you do the blocks by paper piecing or did you just do the the regular piecing?

Hi Barb! I did it by paper piecing. I bought June Taylor foundation paper and took it to my local Office Depot to make copies. Any good copying machine should be able to duplicate the pattern. Just make sure you are making the copies at 100%. I made copies on regular copy paper and placed it over the one in the magazine before I started making copies on the actual foundation paper. Have fun!! I still have three rows left to finish, and I'll be all done!! It's a fun, fun, quilt!

Thank you so much.........can't wait to start......but I think I will have to make myself wait until after Christmas.....or nothing else will get done. I love paper piecing. Thanks for the inspiration.

Wow! That is so bright-what a great project for the winter. I might have to do something like that-after I knit 3 christmas stockings, make 2 tote bags, finish 1 tote bag and make several small projects.

HI There,

Believe it or not, I have a chair just like the one your quilt was laying on. It belonged to my Aunt Billie. The only thing different is the fabric. Small world and keep quilting. Love the quilt

3 Attachment(s)
1, 723 pieces altogether (not including the backing and binding). 40 different pieces of fabric. I used foundation paper on this quilt, so it was so easy-peasy to cut, sew and move onto the next block.

WHEW!!! LOL! It took about three months (stopping and starting, going for stretches at a time without touching my machine) and the top is ready for quilting. I decided to add an extra row on the bottom. So, now it's an 80" x 85" quilt. I need to stitch up the backing and sew-up my binding, and it'll be ready for quilting on the long-arm. I am keeping this quilt. My husband likes it a lot, so we are keeping it. I want to make a similar one (baby quilt size) using pastels. My brother and sister-in-law are expecting a baby in August, and they don't know what the gender is. So, I figured a quilt like this with a lot of different fabrics would be suitable for a baby regardless of gender.

barnbum 01-31-2010 09:52 AM

Positively AMAZING!!!

sewnsewer2 01-31-2010 10:57 AM

Gorgeous! Now how are you planning to quilt it?
