Haven't tried to finish the top open edges because I don't know how! But I have a neat olive green color bias binding that I think would look nice.
Very pretty!! And yes, green across the top would look super!
Do you have bias tape or do you have actual fabric that you need to cut? |
Pretty! Nice project for your first quilting experience!!
it looks really good.
Thanks for commenting! I will be happy when it's finished off! : )
Thanks for the green vote. Bias tape, I guess...? It came in a package. I bought three $5 garbage bags full of notions and things from an older lady downsizing her home, it was in there, prepackaged.
Thanks for commenting! Nice to hear the feedback. Great dress btw! : )
I love your bag - please share when you get it finished!
Thanks Debbie--will do!
I like it!!

OK, this is what I would do with the bias tape:
Take one end of the unfolded bias tape and pin at the top of the pouch by one of the end seams. (Fold tape over a bit at the beginning) Pin all around and then sew on. (Overlap the tape when you get back to the beginning by about 1/2".) Then refold the bias tape and either hand stitch to the inside or machine stitch. And presto -- pouch done! Clear as mud? |
Very pretty!!! I love the fabrics :D :D :D
That is so cute. And what a great job you did. The green on the top would look great.
Clear as mud? That made me laugh, for real! Thanks.
You know that was sort of the picture I had in my head, ... you confirmed it and explained it a little better. I think because I have no confidence I hesitate for fear of "messing it up." I think I need someone to hold my hand, or somebody's Grandma to patiently teach me...lol...I need to stop that, huh? The people on here are inspiring...thank you for taking the time to explain this. |
Thank you! : )
Yard sale, 25 cents, could not beat that! Thanks.
Thanks! I was happy for a first attempt at something. : )
Don't worry about "messing it up" -- we all have done our fair share of "unsewing".......
Lovely! I think green would be perfect!
Very pretty. I agree on the green as well
love it -- would love to see it in final stage.
Very cute.
Thanks, that really does make me feel better. : )
Thanks for the vote!
I will share once I am done! Will appreciate the feedback!
that's cute...right up, my alley! :D
Oh, this is great...really...what I thought was my "flunkie" attempt turns into something people actually like. My companion told me that little thing was to quilting like if I said I played the tuba and blew one note! Isn't that horrible? lol. I could smack him. Glad I have you ladies.

Hey, smack away -- And you might try a hammer on top of his head first just to get his attention    |
Could you add a zipper? It's real cute.
A zipper would probably be nice. I've never tried to do a zipper! Maybe I will try that, if I can figure it out. Should I practice on something first?
I have tons of zippers if you need a few. I can send you some. And as for the partner, if they are smart they learn quickly to keep their mouth shut unless it is a good thing.

I like it. Great job.
Hey this is cute! You did a great job on it. If you want it to close you could always add some velcro with tiny stitches, hand stitched on after you finish the bias edges off. That would be pretty easy.
Just in case you want to make one with a zipper next time, take the two front and back pieces of fabric and sew the zipper on. right sides together. Then sew up the sides, leaving the zipper open while you sew it. Then turn it right side out .... done! (The edges could have bias sewn on to finish the inside pretty, but if they are pinked, it shouldn't ravel very much.) |
I am going to try this after finding an old clutch bag with an actual old measuring tape used for the closure. It still worked great too.
Cut a metal measuring tape (The wide yellow Stanley tape is good) to fit around the purse and sew it in like elastic. That will make a snap shut opening. Easier then sewing in a zipper. I don't like sewing zippers. I better explain more. Don't sew through the metal but encase it like a waistband. |
I like that bag! You're too funny!..."Kind of fits me, though." : ) Like your idea too. Thanks.
Thank you! I was thinking velcro might be my speed. Lots of options I would never have thought of. You make the zipper thing sound so easy can't wait to experiment with one.
Hahahha glad you explained more! I would have tried to sew the tape.
Lovely job! And you're getting some great tips from others. I concur.
Thank you : ) Yes--keep those tips coming please!
