I made this several years ago for a friend for her mother for Mother's day. Her father was preacher in one of our local churches and when he passed away she ended up will all his neckties.
One of the ties that had a village scene with a church in it, so I used it as a focal point in the center of the quilt. This was constructed on a muslin base and made in nine sections and joined with over lapping pieces. I did all the piecing, lace, bead work and finished with tying. My friend did the embroidery. Hope you can see the detail. Small lap quilt |

wvdek, it might be that my picture is a little dark, but the border is a chocolate brown so I thought I got that about right. I was selective in what ties I did use wanting them to coordinate with the browns, tans, rust and teals I had in my scraps. |
That is one amazing quilt. I love it.

How absolutely wonderful. I have a giant tub full of ties that I collected and have intended to make some tie quilts. You have given me another idea to use for the ties. Keep up the wonderful work.

Thanks you and all the rest. You can make all kinds of thinks out of ties...I like to mix regular cottons with then, but silks, satins, batik would looks good. I ended up with all the left over ties and used some of the Burgundy, green and gold ties and mixed with Christmas fabrics and made crazy stockings for my sisters. I ran across some of the foundation pieced stockings the other day in my UFOs and thought about finishing the embellishments and sew them up for Christmas this year. |
Very nice!

I think the fabrics and patterns in ties are exciting to work with. Maybe that will be anotehr one of my projects this year.
