One of the things I keep mulling over for little kids & babies is a colorblock quilt idea. It would be fun to have some kind of base print fabric (dark blue, off-white...that has multiple tiny bits of color in it), then make all those other squares alternating solids (or mainly so) to go with the one print. It would be nice to help them with learning their colors. If you know they will be having a boy and a girl you could do the same idea, but with different main print fabric. Or make the backing the significant print. Just a thought. Sorry if this is the wrong thread to suggest this.

I really like your idea! Thanks for suggesting it here. I might have missed it anywhere else. I'm going to try it for the next baby quilt! You could use plain solid colors or prints that read as solids, or something like Moda Marbles. . .

I like simple, uncomplicated patterns. It's easy to put a little somedthing in a corner of off-set and have it stand out and look really special.

Yes I am a true fan of Moda Marbles! Another line you might like is "Blank textiles- Splash". http://www.blankquilting.com/Splash/...062008_v8.html I have thought about doing the colorblock idea with a jeans quilt for a picnic blanket too. I'm sure you've seen the "less than traditional" circles sewn together & folded back over, like a cathedral window. http://quiltingwithcharlie.com/quilt...structions.htm It might be too much for the baby quilts...although when you sew it you're done...sort of a quilt as you go. You could do this with just 2 fabrics; you could put a couple simple kids appliques in a few of the centers if you made them really big circles to start.

Not my block- just wanted to show the style

Amen! It's all fun!
