Cross Stitched Top -- Follow up

I asked for suggestions on this top a while back in this thread

http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...p-t213408.html

I had no idea what I was doing and pretty much hated the top. Because of the encouragement from the board, I went out of my comfort zone and tried some new things.

I did FMQ around the motifs. That was a PAIN! My MFQ foot really wanted to catch on the cross stitching. I even decided to try out feathers since I figure I can't ruin a top I hate. I'll have to say I am very pleased with my feathers. I had to draw them on first but what I stitched actually looks like a feather. I will try those again at some point.

Thanks to all of you who help me stretch my horizons. This top is now done only 26 years after I started it. I may not even hate it now. I don't love it, but it's OK.

I think it is absolutely gorgeous and you did a wonderful job quilting. I hope you come to love it.

I too think you did a great job. And if you still don't like it after awhile, you could always donate it to an injured or retired soldier.

Wow! Very pretty! Someone spent a LOT of time cross-stitching that! It looks like one of those "stamped" kind. I'm a cross-stitch nut, but do mine on aida cloth. Great job quilting it!

That is a beautiful quilt. And your feathers are too. Are you sure you haven't done them before?

Raine54RN 04-29-2013 02:03 PM

I think it's beautiful and I can see why you have a Love/Hate relationship! Long time and a big challenge. But I think you should be proud of yourself for stitching and FMQ. Even if you never "love" it you did a great job. Give yourself a pat on the back!

Great job, love the quilt (as a cross stitcher) and love the way you quilted it (as a girl who wants to learn). I honestly think it looks vintage!

I do love your quilt! The cross stitch (now called counted treads) is gorgeous! You did a great job on the feathers, too.

Bluebell 04-30-2013 04:53 AM

OMG OMG OMG.......I'm so glad you finished it. It looks fabulous. I was wondering what you were going to do with it, and waited with baited breath. I was worried that you were going to dump it. It is now truly a heirloom. Well done.

Beautiful, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 04-30-2013 06:49 AM

Thanks for all your kind comments. I guess in some ways this quilt is vintage. I bought the top kit at a yard sale in 1987. Who knows how old it was then? If you wait long enough to finish those UFO's, you get a brand new vintage quilt!

nena 04-30-2013 07:49 AM

How could you not like that quilt? I think if is wonderful! I could give it a loving home. lol

Nammie to 7 04-30-2013 07:53 AM

You did a great job on your quilt. I have the same problem - I love a project when I start it but then work on it so long that I hate it! Then when it all comes together and is finished as nicely as yours is then the love part kicks back in. Congratulations on completing your project. I just finished one that was 41 years in the making! It was also embroidered, but much smaller.
