So... I was making these for a doll or (most ambitiously) a baby-sized quilt. But DH saw 'em and liked them so much he's requested a quilt for our King-sized bed with them. They're beautiful and fun, but made out of tiny crumbs and are each 4x4 unfinished.

If I take DH up on his request, it may take me 'till I die to finish this. LOL. Anybody have crumbs to spare? Just kidding. Unless you really do... then PM me! (Never hurts to put it out there, huh?)

here's what I have so far

looks good! crumb blocks are addicting- they are so much fun to make. I have a bunch of 7 1/2" blocks just waiting for me to put them together. I don't have a purpose for the,. Want them? You can cut them down and use the extra as starters for new blocks. There are 17 or 18 of them.

MegsAnn, I'm doing those crumb blocks too. They use up so much thread but I like doing them. They are great for those times when I want to sew but just have a short amount of time or I am too distracted to concentrate on other projects. I sit and sew these and it isn't a waste of time because they can be made into something beautiful. I do some blocks quilt-as-you-go and sometimes use them to practice free-motion quilting.

youme, thanks for the link to the tute...that's a good way to do the crumbs.

MegsAnn Cute blocks - have you those of putting a sashing strip in so as to enlarge the quilt top without adding more blocks? Try putting a request for crumbs on the Classified section of QB.

PANDA - Love the TUT - crumb blocks are on my to do list *one of the days when I have nothing to do* - ROFLMAO!!!

That's a great tutorial! The one I saw this on is here: http://quiltville.com/crumbs.shtml They're similar, but I like how your link tells you how to deal with strips without cutting 'em up right away.

MegsAnn 05-30-2010 08:29 PM

Thanks for the comments guys. They are really fun to make. I started with just using scraps as leaders and enders while I was working on other things... and then got hooked! It is a lot of work, but I'm not on deadline since it's just for us.

ranger, I'd love to see pix of your crumb-work if you have any. I also work on these when I just have a few minutes to sew or am frustrated with projects. It's a good break and I feel all resourceful using up every bit of fabric.

Cute!!! Keep the pictures coming! :)
