Cubes, stars, hexies, Oh My!
3 Attachment(s)
Pictures of a quilt I just finished for a great nephew. This was made w/ 3 color ways of the same print so all the hexies are cubes. The trim on the borders is 1 3/4 inch ric rac. It is fleeced backed, qayg quilted, fringed edges on top and bottom. I have done stacked or fussy cutting on from 3 to 24 layers, on all kinds of fabric cheap cotton, expensive, upholstery weight, silky, old clothes and probably some I am forgetting, but this was the most obnoxious to line the print on. I am glad it is a child's quilt since my pattern lining was so poor. I do love the effect of the "hidden star" and will keep this in mind for the right fabric in the future

Wow! Never thought using those fabrics in this combination could be so beautiful! It's an amazing quilt.

|
Wow! That is impressive.

Beautiful quilt and love your fabrics. I have never seen such wide rick rack but it sure adds a nice touch to your quilt.

Super. BrendaK

Your quilts are always so interesting!!! Great job, Kass!

Thanks for showing us all the details. From the large picture, I couldn't see all the fine details that became evident in the close up. What seemed to be a simple design is actually very complex. Is your great newphew an astronomy enthusiast? It looks like a map of the night;) sky to me.

Turned out beautifully. Great job.

What an intricate pattern design. It took a lot of work but the end result was well worth it. The hidden star really is outstanding. It is hard to believe the outcome from the combination of your fabric selection. You have a "hidden" talent in choosing the right combination of fabrics. Thanks for posting. It is an inspiration.

It looks wonderful! Great boy quilt.
|
Looks great. It must have been very hard on your eyes working on this one.

Wow Kass, you must have the patience of a Saint...I’m not sure I could have done all that fussy cutting but love how it turned out. Like Sue Ross said, I’m glad you posted detailed photos otherwise you wouldn’t get to see all of the elements of your hard work. Great job!

that is really beautiful!

Awesome quilt
|
Oh, my, incredible!

"my pattern lining was so poor"
And here's another reason for using patterned fabrics.... I love it! So much to see. |
Intriguing and beautiful! You've created illusion upon illusion, with the cubes and the hidden stars. Congratulations!
|
Awesome quilt - love the color combination.
|
beautiful. Took me a minute to see the hidden star Amazing quilt
|
Wow! Another amazing piece with a lot of perfectly fussy-cut, tiny pieces! Your creativity is incredible - it's always a joy to see what you've designed :)
|
Super cool quilt!

I bought it on Etsy or Amazon I forget which, but I had never seen any that wide either, buy when I saw that I knew I needed to use it in this quilt since the shape mimics the print shape.

He is still really young, but his passion right now is cars, but I couldn't find any fleece w/ a good car theme. Originally I was going to do cars, but couldn't find anything I liked, then when I thought of the idea of the star I wanted to play w/ the idea of hidden in plain sight and knew if I was going to be able to do what was in my head I would need a simple print in 3 color ways and it just went from there.

Thanks for all the compliments

Love the marriage of the design with the gorgeous rich colors.
|
That's fantastic, Kassaundra. It took me a long time to see the hidden star; had to squint . I love the illusion.
|
Wow I just love this quilt. I love hexies and cubes so much. But this is just awesome with that fabric. I can see how it is obnoxious. It would make my head spin trying to line everything up just so. But your effort and talent was worth it. Beautiful
|
I love this so much, I have to keep going back and looking at it again.
|
Kassaundra, I love the way you create.
|
Looks like it's well worth the effort! You did a wonderful job.
|
What an awesome use of the fabric print. I think it is very unique looking and certainly impressive.
