I took a class this summer on how to do curved piecing. Finished the top over the summer but it took until this cold winter weekend to actually quilt and bind it. Now it is already being snuggled. The colors are a bit brighter than the photo shows, but you get the idea.

This is a very different quilt and you did an excellent job on it. I think the pinks pull the colors together & it is very striking. It would look good as a wall quilt. Do you know what you'll do with it?

sewsue 02-13-2010 08:00 PM

Lovely and love the border, something different.

Barb_MO 02-13-2010 08:01 PM

Very pretty, and looks way too hard for me to do. Good job.

dkabasketlady 02-13-2010 08:10 PM

What a cool quilt! Way too difficult for me, but kudos to you!!!

Debka 02-13-2010 08:11 PM

Thanks for the nice comments! I'm newish to the site and it's the first time I've posted a quilt. It will hang on a wall, in the room our sons' music "studio" - spare bedroom, really. We are always looking to absorb more of the guitar amps and drums!
Also, all the curves were cut freehand, then sewn. Very scary the first time, but really liberating! To make the blocks, I made long pieces, like the border, then cut them into smaller segments and put them around the center square, in a log cabin fashion. It was actually not hard.

Bet your son loves the quilt, right? & yes, it will absorb some of the music sounds, so it will serve a great purpose, while being very beautiful. Kudos.

Oh pretty quilt! This is a good example of why a person should take a class. It gives you the skills to make something out of the box.

charismah 02-13-2010 09:44 PM

great quilt!

Loretta 02-13-2010 09:46 PM

It's pretty, but I think it would drive me crazy to do it.

craftybear 02-13-2010 11:05 PM

It looks great.

I love curves! Yours are just fabulous!
If a local group gave a class on curved piecing I would be all over it! Sadly our quilting group here in Huntsville is less than stellar and the stores in town don't really have many quilting classes either :(

I love your quilt!

brushandthimble 02-14-2010 05:07 AM

I love your freehand curves, yes diffently a class I would love to take.

I just love your quilt! You did a wonderful job. Isn't liberated curved piecing fun? If anyone wants to try it, there's a good tutorial here: http://bumblebeans.blogspot.com/2009...y-set-sew.html
