This is a garment bag in black with white polka dots. It's quilted completely in feathers and took quite some time, but I like the results. What do you think?

Beautiful! I would not have thought of making one of those, either. I like the dots!

sandilee 05-16-2011 09:27 PM

Wow! This is cool! I would like to make one. When we travel I hang my clothes in plastic dry cleaners bags so I can just hang them up at the hotel. This is ideal!

Great idea. I like the polka dots. Wherever did you find a zip long enough to do this?

I think I want one! My garment bag is begging for the trash bin.

Pattern?

Nice. Good job.

I have never seen a garment bag hand made. This is so well done. Another project for my 'to do list'. Please tell me what pattern you used.

pipp5 05-17-2011 04:30 AM

Thanks everyone, for your very nice compliments. There is no pattern that I've been able to find....so I made my own and made a few mistakes along the way. Thank goodness I have enough dils that I was able to get closer to a good pattern with each one. They whine that they are always the guinea pigs, but they love the free (translate to far from perfect) gifts.

I love it, especially the fabric. Great job.

fleurdelisquilts.com 05-17-2011 11:41 AM

Thanks Linda for the link. I think I'll stick with my pattern--the bag opens all the way including the neck, which makes it easy to put clothes in. I just added a tie to hold the hangers in place. That is a nice looking bag though. I've made some that short and a little narrower for my granddaugthers to put their little girl clothes in, and one for another girl to put her pagent dresses in.

Nice job!
the polka dots would make it fun to use.

I have a similar bag that I purchased and want to emulate sometime. Across the bottom there is a zippered pouch that you can put things to .... a pair of shoes, hose, underwear or even some makeup, etc. Not a lot, but often just what you need with you if you're doing a quick change somewhere and saves from taking a full suitcase. It has a handle top and bottom, so if you're carrying it you can loop the two together, and carry more like a suitcase or bag.

Love it ... the next one will be a made-by-me-quilty one!
