Those are square grommets. They make them square or round in all kinds of colors. The best price/selection that I have found for them is Create for Less online. You can get basic colors at Joann's and Hancock's in the curtain section.

This is "My Favorite Bag" by Kati Cupcakes. The fabric is mostly Red Rooster I think. Super easy. I rotate it so it is not sideways.
