Cutting correctly

I know we all say it - measure twice cut once. I just got my Accuquilt yesterday and boy does it make a difference!! I am able to whip these out. This is by far my favorite star and now they won't take forever!

Nice. I keep telling myself, I can cut fabric myself, but now that you said that, I have to hint to hubby what I would like for have for Christmas. Love the stars.

Jingle 11-19-2011 05:37 PM

The stars look perfect, I might have to think about getting one.

Thanks for all the complements! I am due to get a quilt done for my mom... I have done 3 baby quilts, one for my Mother in Law and a few for myself. She wants simple brown - so I am doing 9 patches and they have turned out nice - but just not as fun as this.

I love love love my cutter. This will help me take the chance on patterns I would not normally attempt. Completly worth the money. Espically after my husband just got a new cool guy exaust system for his truck. It makes me feel less guilty for spending so much :)

Love it. Have an accuquilt what dies did you use, please?

cminor 11-19-2011 06:33 PM

I used the 4-7/8 triangle (55002) the Half Square 3in finished triangle (55009) and the 3 1/2 square (55006). I started with just the 3 1/2 triangles - but the other 2 sizes worked in perfectly.

I got the starter kit and they said they mostly worked together. They work really well together! I can't wait to get the tumbler.

Also - take a look on You Tube for LoveBug Studios. She has really great videos and tons of good ideas. The one about marking the die was really helpful and it seems it helps not waste fabric.

Love your stars, it's one of my favorite stars too. I would love to have an Accuquilt, been saving my pennies for one. Just hope nothing comes along & takes them pennies before I get one. :)

Does the accuquilt work better with unwashed or prewashed fabric, or does it not make a difference?

Is the fabric layered when you cut it? And do you have to cut the width of the fabric down from the 42-44 inches in order to use the accuquilt?

The stars are so pretty. They are very, very neat.

Beautiful blocks!

catladyquilts 11-20-2011 04:05 AM

great job, I love my Go

EmbQuilt 11-20-2011 04:16 AM

The fabric can be washed or unwashed. But works best if pressed. I cut it as close to the size of the die as possible to avoid waste.

I would recommend the set to make 12" blocks and the book mix and match which provides patterns to use only those dies in that set

To be honest - I don't pre wash. I found that using scraps is great - but if I use yardage I cut it down to a strip just over the size of the die. My waste ended up to be tiny strings I wouldnt be able to use anywhere else. I do think it cuts down on waste. At least for me.
