This block represents two of the three fabrics I'm using. The third fabric will be darker and provide much needed contrast. Is this too crazy looking??

mom-6 08-17-2010 02:09 PM

Up close it looks pretty busy, but when you back off the design shows nicely.

tooMuchFabric 08-17-2010 02:09 PM

I love the fabrics, in fact I have one of them!
Do you have a picture of these with the darker fabric? Try all of them to see if you like the more homogenous look, or if you want more contrast.
Either way it is very pretty as it is.

bearisgray 08-17-2010 02:10 PM

I really like the "larger" print

Here's the first block finished and the second block with the darker fabric. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should do all the blocks with the darker + one of the lighter and not mix the two lighter fabrics.

Ohh I love that dark fabric!!

rubia 08-17-2010 02:46 PM

LOL That dark fabric was my choir uniform in the late 80's. I hate it! LOL Imagine a sea of about 30 girls all wearing that fabric with faux lace collars. Bleh! But I can laugh about it now. All of these fabrics were used by my mom to sew dresses for me, my sister or for herself. I'm making them into a lap blanket for her for Christmas.

Junepot 08-17-2010 02:48 PM

I am a total newbie, but to put in my two cents, I think the two lighter fabrics are too close in tone. . . you need a little more ooommph! Does that make any sense?

PurplePassion 08-17-2010 02:52 PM

I'd use a solid color in there, pink or purple; to set it off better.

cjomomma 08-17-2010 02:58 PM

My true opinion. The lighter fabric is too close in color and makes it hard to see any contrast in the block. The dark with allows your see what is there without having to search for a difference in the colors. In other words the first is so so and the second one is yeah now there we go. Does that make any sense.

rubia 08-17-2010 03:06 PM

Yep.. the more I look at them, the more I agree that I need the stronger contrast. Thanks for the input everyone!

Sadiemae 08-17-2010 04:51 PM

I much prefer the darker, but I always like contrast!

oksewglad 08-17-2010 05:20 PM

The higher contrast is better, I think. This will be a great quilt for your mom because she will remember sewing every garment represented in the quilt.

leaha 08-17-2010 05:22 PM

2ed one for sure better contrast, first one mushes

kristen0112 08-17-2010 05:46 PM

nice! Can't wait to see the rest of the blocks all sewn up.

pocoellie 08-17-2010 05:53 PM

You definitely need the contrast instead of the 2 lighter colors. Pretty fabrics though.

smitty 08-17-2010 06:16 PM

the 2nd block with the beautiful, darker fabric makes the
blocks "sing".

bezzie58 08-17-2010 06:51 PM

I'm in Mechanicsville now, so not too far. I love the Millstone quilt shop. Have you ever been there?

littlehud 08-17-2010 08:43 PM

I love the contrast of the light and dark. The other one is just to close for me.

bezzie58 08-18-2010 07:47 AM

not yet but i hope to soon there is a new shop between us and i want to go there also but have to wait till the move is totally done before i can even sew

heather1949 08-18-2010 07:49 AM

The dark one jumps right out and grabs you.

caliquocat 03-18-2011 12:16 PM

Thanks for sharing your blocks. Now I know why my blocks look boring. Contrast, contrast, contrast!

Mariposa 03-18-2011 12:19 PM

I vote for the darker one--it has more needed contrast~

I agree- love the flowers, not crazy at all...

TerryQuilter 03-18-2011 01:25 PM

IMHO the darker fabric really makes the block pop. I think the two lighter fabrics look too washed out.
