This is just fabulous. Please don't get discouraged because it will take lots of time and patience. But when you do finish it, you will feel it was so worth it. I am doing a GFG one and I am only a sixth done if that. I may be done in 10 years. Hang in there. Keep posting pics so we can keep encouraging you. I had never seen this pattern before but it is simply spectacular.

It's going great so far! It may take a while, but be encouraged and know it will have been worth it all! The royal blue in it is really helping to establish the colors in it. It brings out the best of the other colors so go for it!

WOW!!!! It's BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm impressed with how much you've gotten done so quickly (I'm sure it doesn't seem that fast to you!)!!! :) :) :) Keep up the GREAT work - you'll be happy!

Jingle 08-24-2012 08:16 PM

Beautiful, you are doing a wonderful job. Hand sewing, other than bindings or applique are not for me. Just keep going and soon it will be the size you want. I can't wait to see it finished.

MamaHen 08-25-2012 03:01 AM

You sure have your work cut out for you in making that with so many little pieces. It will beautiful when finished, keep plugging away.

What an ambitious project to undertake
Give yourself and At a Girl and move on.
Slow and steady will make it.
By the way this is going to be one lovely couch quilt.

Krystyna 08-25-2012 03:06 AM

It's a lovely pattern! I know how long it takes to hand sew hexes so I hope you're faster than I am!

homecaregiver 08-25-2012 03:40 AM

my paper piecing project is also underway. I was going to make a Shasha's Garden quilt many years ago as my neighbor had the pattern and so the 3 of us starting cutting out our fabrics (hexigons) out of all florals. Well life got in the way of me finishing as with a very sick husband, I just sat it aside. When the other 2 ladies finished I was the recipient of a ton of floral hexicons so I am now sewing them all together to make my own floral garden quilt. It is a challenge but I love to paper piece. When it is finished, I will show it here.

I can't even imagine tackling this project. You have done an amazing job already. Can't wait to see more.

DebPoole 08-25-2012 04:17 AM

I am going to call you WONDER WOMAN! I'm working on a hand pieced hexie right now and I have been cussing myself for starting this project. ( I like it and I'm using scraps but it's going to take years to finish). BUT you the WONDER WOMAN, are hand piecing stars and hexies and you are connecting all those "Y" seams! Your quilt will be AMAZING! By the way, my birthday is April 1. Do,you think you will have it done by then? Lol

carolynjo 08-25-2012 04:21 AM

Good job! It will be beautiful when it is finished. I am cutting 2,020 pieces for a hand-pieced quilt, so you go girl!

Kris P 08-25-2012 04:39 AM

Keep at it! It's so rewarding to see something take shape that you've done all on your own. I recently started a 60 degree diamond star quilt, too. Each side of my diamonds are 1.5 inches. I'm using diamonds to separate, though. I started mine as a travel quilt- something I could do in the car. My parents and in-laws both live about 4 hours away, so a weekend visit allows me about 8 hours of stitiching time. I've also found that I enjoy stitching while watching tv with DH after the DDs are in bed. Very little on tv requires your full attention. I figure each star takes about 1 hour- start to finish.

I was able to get 6 stars done yesterday. I have not timed myself. They were all precut a few days ago and matched ( fussy cut or pattern to plain fabric). Will have to time myself. That will help estimating this project! Thanks!

luvstoquilt 08-25-2012 04:51 AM

So lovely...love your fabric and love, love, love the pattern.

janiesews 08-25-2012 04:56 AM

You can do it! You have done beautifully so far and you will continue until you get it to the size you want. Go! Go! Go!

charhend 08-25-2012 05:01 AM

Wow!! That's a huge under taking. It will be beautiful. Keep us posted.

homebody323 08-25-2012 05:11 AM

I'm doing a flower garden and have decided that the easiest way for me to get the pieces ready to assemble is to heavily starch with liquid starch the fabric, i press it and then cut. When I finger press over the paper or quilt pati everything looks so nice, stays so nice while i'm piecing. You are doing a wonderful job, and a thought for using the leftover path hexes. I assume I will have some since I just keep making pieces when I'm in that mood, then I assemble when I move onto another mood.

matraina 08-25-2012 05:16 AM

I think you did a great job! What a great way to use scraps!

Latrinka 08-25-2012 05:35 AM

It's so beautiful. Keep going, you'll get there! You can't stop now!

roserips 08-25-2012 05:57 AM

rainagade 08-25-2012 07:46 AM

this is great! it also looks like a project I would do.
I have a Grandmothers Garden going, done by hand. The top needs to be squared off and I am done.

I bet there are enough scraps to start one of these too.

fmhall2 08-25-2012 08:03 AM

I think what you have done by day 10 is beautiful. KEEP GOING.

Eliebelle 08-25-2012 08:04 AM

I'm impressed!!! I've never had the courage to paper-piece and I congratulate you on doing a GREAT job!! Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

QUILTNMO 08-25-2012 08:15 AM

its going to be beautiful !!!

iwillquilt 08-25-2012 08:36 AM

Are you making this lovely quilt for yourself? I have only made quilts with other people in mind so far. If the one you are working on was mine it would be for myself or hand delivered. No way would I trust that much work to the package delivery services. Keep going. You are making something special. Enjoy the process. Don't worry about the end date.

debcavan 08-25-2012 08:38 AM

All sides to the diamonds are 1". Oh you have my admiration for even trying this. It looks great so far

linda faye 08-25-2012 08:44 AM

WOW !!! Paper pieced? Please keep us updated.

Sewbeeit2 08-25-2012 09:14 AM

Great colors and use of scraps. The side stars and hexagons get cut in half and then you can add borders...when you get to the size you want. Wonderful idea.......another quilt in my head???? Thanks to you for posting

feffertim 08-25-2012 10:06 AM

WisWis 08-25-2012 10:48 AM

SheriR, you can do this!!!!! It's easy if you mark your seam allowances using a Quilter's Quarter or similar. I have one of these with bigger diamonds in the works and it's easy but time-consuming.

nannyrick 08-25-2012 11:37 AM

That is gorgeous!!! Please show us whrn you finish. Good luck.

fred singer 08-25-2012 11:40 AM

that is so pretty, comming along quickly

Farm Quilter 08-25-2012 12:07 PM

Good grief!!!!! You are a glutton for punishment!!! One inch sides??????????? Holy cow, woman....you are crazy or magnificent!!! This will be a beautiful quilt when you get finished with it! Are you sure you won't go with a modern, asymmetrical wall hanging based on an historical block??? What you have done is awesome - I know I will never even attempt this pattern!!! My hats off to you!!!!!

ngale4 08-25-2012 12:35 PM

Wow! Great job!

KathyKat 08-25-2012 01:29 PM

It will be so worth it so keep going! I'm working on a GFG quilt with one inch hexagons. I'm making 2 courses of hexagons around the center one and I have 17 completed so far. I'm planning on 2-3 yrs to make a large lap size. I work on it sporadically while watching TV or while traveling.
