Deb Tucker's Lemoyne Star block

1 Attachment(s)
I watched Deb on the free shows from The Quilt Show demonstrate her method. It looked so easy I decided to give it a try. If I was making a whole quilt, I would definitely buy her ruler so that blocks would come out perfect. This block will go with my other ( blech ) green trial blocks for a lap quilt soon. My block here measures 10-1/2 inches so it is a little bigger then hers for some reason. I will add green sashing to bring it up to 12-1/2 to fit the others.

Nicely done.

Tweety2911 03-20-2017 03:32 PM

You did a great job!

Deb watkins 03-20-2017 04:46 PM

I have most all of her rulers except that one! I have ordered it and am looking forward to using it. I figure if I can manage Hunter's Star, I can handle the Lemoyne!

BrendaK 03-20-2017 05:17 PM

Kool. Plan on getting her rulers. BrendaK

Looks great to me.

I read about her ruler for this star in a quilting magazine and wondered about it. Rulers are just so darn expensive and I'm tired of finding a place to keep them. Thanks for the picture though.

You did a great job on that block; no "volcano" sticking up in the middle. Pat yourself on the back for a block well done..

LindaMRB 03-21-2017 06:41 AM

I love the block, but love the background fabric more. Where did you find it?

I got a bunch of scraps from another quilter with no selvage, sorry.

Beautiful work! Nice!

luvrazz 03-22-2017 06:21 AM

First how did you watch a free show? What show number was it? And lastly it sounds like you did not use her ruler is that correct. You did a beautiful job on it.

How dare you call your colors "blech"? (lol) Green is my favorite color and your block is gorgeous. Send it my way if you don't want it. I love that leaf material. I don't think I have seen it on any of my quilt fabric shops online, or I just don't recognize it.

Edited to say that I erased too much of the original post and lost the quote factor.

Every year on The Quilt Show site, the years of back shows are free to basic members for Quilt Weekend. I can't remember the number of her episode but Deb Tucker has about 40 videos on YouTube so I bet it is there for the Lemoyne Star. Her method is done by strip piecing the two colours with about 20 inch long pieces. The strata is cut at 45 * angles to give the correct size strips. All that can be done with a ruler that has a good 45* mark. Where her ruler would come in handy is trimming that exact size for the diamonds pieces when done. Since you end up with 4 patches when sewing the last pieces together, I just squared my 4 patches inner edges up with a square. This is what made my block a little bigger I think.

Billy'swife 03-22-2017 08:49 AM

A very nice block! It would make a beautiful star quilt.

JuneBillie 03-22-2017 09:26 AM

Great work, and I love the color contrast.

Rose Bagwell 03-22-2017 12:19 PM

Love it, perfect seams.
