I believe that this block is called broken dishes. If not can someone supply the correct name?

Black sashing or what would you suggest?

It actually looks nice on the design wall with the white peeking thtough, so I think white or off-white would work. You have so many colors to choose from! Black always makes a statement, so I would lay the blocks out on black to see whether I liked that look. It will be beautiful.

Meant to add - this is not the traditional broken dishes block. If you set this block on point and put a square around it (triangles on each side) it would be broken dishes.

so pretty..reminds me of summer!

I just went in search of the name for the block and stumbled on this quilt, where the block is called X block. (On EQ7 is it called 4 X). Anyway, notice that the quilter used all different colors of sashing, and it is beautiful. Her layout is a little different in that the same fabric is used on either side of the sashing, but I don't think that is necessary for the different colors of sashing to look good.

I agree. It IS beautiful by the way. I'd try other colors for sashing as well. Then you can post 1/2 a dozen or so and we can enjoy seeing the different looks as well. 8-)

Now the blocks look like flowers vining on trellis, so I would go with white.

Nice, I've seen it listed as broken dishes also. Some blocks have several different names.

Wow. that is going to be beautiful

So many beautiful fabrics! Very pretty. Thank you for the work in progress photos.

When I first pulled up the picture, I thought the white was the sashing at first. It really looks nice with the white. But with all the pretty colors in the blocks, you could use almost any solid color. Blue pops out to me too.

i like the summer /spring look with white or cream [homespun]---black would be dramatic i would love to see how this would look

Beautiful!

This is very pretty. I think a light color would look best, a white, cream or very soft blue.

tomilu 01-31-2011 05:22 AM

I would suggest a bright color to pop the blocks.

I made this quilt using the pattern on McCall's sight....

I made it in florals for a friends retirement.......

edited: now that I look at it closely, you don't have the strip sewn in the block..is that the hour glass block.

Gonna be a nice quilt no matter what you do.

buckeyed 01-31-2011 10:33 AM

The white looks wonderful. It lets the colors in the quilt be the "star" of the quilt and not the black stashing fighting to be the "star". Really nice blocks!!
