this is what I am making for the holiday bazaars this fall..
You get a set of 8 weights(2 in each size) and they come in a plastic case.

I am also making pin cushions in the vintage muffin tins you see in the right hand side of the pix!

How did you know I was thinking of weights? I like what I see!

you know, it is funny, but there are times you just NEED weights..even in quilting...and I painted them really bright so you can find them under the cutting table pile ups..hehehe

Excuse me for asking this DUMB question and I KNOW ITS A DUMB question and YES there is such things as DUMB questions because this definately is a DUMB question....

What are the weights used for? I'm lost in lala land on this one. I do however like the colors. :)

Good Luck with your sales. Those look like interesting projects and something a little different. I send my fleece baby blankets down to OK to my sisters and they go to lots of craft shows. I wonder if you are ever in one of the same shows they are. They are in Western OK, too. Do you do the big show in Woodward?
They will be at Arnett this next Saturday. My sister is putting that show on. If you need ph. #'s to get in touch with one of my sisters for shows just PM me. Would love to hear from you.

The weights are for weighing down a pattern and not having to pin it down to the material - you can just place them around and shift them as you cut. Makes cutting out for clothing sewers go faster- although you can also use them in quilting.

Saw weights used once many years ago at a fabric shop - thought it was a great idea, but forgot all about it until I saw your post.
Good luck with the sales.

I think your pincushions made from those vintage tins would be cute!

How interesting is that. Thank you for replying to my question. that would save alot of work not having to pin so much. Good luck on your sales. :)

I use horse shoes for my waits works great. ;) But love the bright colors I may paint them. Can you tell I lost them at times.

I use my extra rulers as weights.

jaciqltznok 08-24-2011 05:26 AM

besides holding down fabric, they hold down papers!
they hold the fabric I am painting on so there are no pin holes, they hold the ROLL of steam a seam so it lies flat while I am trying to draw it...really, they do come in handy!

see, I was doing that...these small weights take up less room, they are easier to see under my creative clutter and they are heavier than the rulers!

Divokittysmom 08-24-2011 09:46 AM

Very clever and soooo colorful, great idea on making them BRIGHT colors!! How do things get lost in our sewing rooms??? LOL
Great idea on the muffin tins for pincushions! I collect and make pincushions, just love this idea. Off to the antique/2nd hand stores for me!!

kathy 08-24-2011 09:47 AM

cool idea, i made small sand bags because if i have a long length of fabric to cut or when trimming a quilt it wants to fall off the cutting table, those weights would be good for that too

gramalama9 08-24-2011 05:53 PM

I'm not clear....where did you get the weights? Am I incorrect when I assume you are "making them for fall bazaars".....what do you make them out of?

that is a TRADE secret...hehehe....but I can tell you they are metal and heavy!

BrendaY 09-26-2011 11:52 AM

Mother always used knifes to weight her patterns down... and I did for a long time, too. Now I pin... but think the knifes worked just as well...

joysewer 09-26-2011 06:47 PM

I have a tomato pincushion in one of those vintage tins and I love it. An online friend from Nebraska made it for me.
