DGD's Quilt Camp

3 Attachment(s)
Originally, I had planned to teach my 9.5 yo DGD, along with two 6-yo girls, to make a simple, small quilt. After a trial run with a craft, my DD and I both decided the younger girls probably aren't ready for sewing. My DGD is taking to sewing, like a duckling to water. She picked out her favorite fabrics (BTW, she LOVES monkey! LOL), arranged them, then started pinning and sewing. She finished the quilt top, on Sunday. Next time she comes over, we'll work on the back.

She did all of this, except for the appliqued heart, with her name and date. I'm so proud of her! Her quilt is 36" x 48".

You are living my dream! I can't wait for DGD's to get old enough to teach and pray they will want to.
She did an excellent job!

Thanks, everyone! She's a wonderful student and has been being very careful, every step of the way. She and I are both really enjoying this!

Thanks, everyone! Can't wait to have this finished, so that she can enjoy using it . . . and start on her next project! :)

BTW, I'm a terrible Gramma! I've been saying she's 9-1/2 but she won't be 9-1/2, until next month! :o Had it in my head, "during the summer, she'll be 9-1/2" and guess the heat has affected my brain! :p

How precious it is that you and she are quilting together. I have two granddaughters and two great granddaughters and none are interested in quilting - yet...I still hold out hope that I can get them interested. I did not have anyone in my family that quilted. What wonderful memories you are creating with your granddaughter.

So sweet to see! I love seeing young people learning to sew. Someone said to me recently that he thought sewing was a thing of the past. I told him he needed to join this blog! lol
