i recently posted a picture of a baby quilt called, snowballs and hourglass.
several commented on the quilt it was laying on. so here it is again. really pretty primitive as i just saw a picture on line and had no pattern. but it used up quite a few scraps.

sorry, here is the picture. toooo early in the morning :?

hi bev, thanks for the kind words. this was a very simple quilt. i saw a picture of an antique quilt on line that was diamonds set in muslin. i thought i'd try the black setting and i think it turned out okay. i sewed the scraps together then trimmed to the diamond shape.
i have no idea how to tell you how to set it together cause it was strictly trial and error. but i know you can do it. it really is a scrap buster cause it takes quite a few scraps. have fun  :!:

Gorgeous! :)

nana, since you said not to ask, I won't; but I have never set anything on point, because I didn't know how to figure out the sze to cut the triangles around the perimeter. That black sashing really makes those string blocks pop. GREAT JOB.

zyxquilts 10-07-2008 12:04 AM

Ohhh! Beautimous!! I have a few blocks done from a string quilt workshop....something I need to get back to now - thanks for the inspiration :D

nanabirdmo 10-07-2008 04:59 AM

hi gailg, i will try to give you a tip that i learned the hard way with this one. diamonds, for me, are really hard to work with. if you saw this quilt in person the major flaws in joining would jump out at you.
if i were to do this again i would make it with triangles then join to form diamonds. but since i didn't have a pattern i made a slew of diamonds then tried to join them. it was hard for me. i later saw a book from my library that showed this quilt made with rows of triangles joined in rows that formed diamonds. you didn't have to set it on point. it looked a lot easier. i have gotten so many good ideas from my library, especially since i can't afford to buy every quilting book i want.

earthwalker 10-14-2012 11:39 PM

Stunning...quilts like yours have inspired me...I just finished piecing a string top....I went with different colours in a narrow width for the diamonds....used a heap of scraps. Love your fabrics.

heather1949 10-15-2012 01:57 AM

Now that is one very pretty scrappy, well done.
