Just finished a DP9 with a bunch of patriotic fat quarters I had. Quilted it on the machine with just loops and stars. The squares that look solid actually are small star prints.

Thanks for looking :D

Thanks, Quilt4U, ai731!

Beachlady and nursesews - it is a simple pattern, goes together really quick - you should try it!

SharonC - I've been wanting to make a patriotic quilt and the dp9 was perfect for all the fat quarters I had. Enjoy your picnic!

Kyia, amma, and Pam - thanks!! :D

LisaT - thanks for saying that! That's sweet!

littlehud, sewnsewer2, terri, mytwopals - Thanks! :D

nativetexan - really it's an easy quilt!

RoseMarie - thanks, I had some strips left over from the nine patches and used them.

debbie1 and janstar - thanks and yes, I'm keeping this one :D

Very Pretty :D

Mrs. Mel 06-27-2009 07:58 AM

This turned out really nice as a D9P. Good job.

sewlady31 06-29-2009 08:59 AM

Bearpaw

I love your quilt. Just a question did you do just a two color 9 patch
for the initial blocks and then mix and match the cut apart pieces?
Good job!

bearpaw 06-29-2009 09:10 AM

Thank you Loretta, Charlie2, Bev, and Mrs Mel! :D

Sewlady31 - I used 8 different fat quarters. I cut them into 5" strips and 5" strips of the background fabric - making each into a 9 patch. Each nine patch was just the background fabric and one of the fat quarter colors.

I followed gcathie's instructions that she posted for her DP9 - if you go to page 3 of the following link, you'll see how easy it is to do!

Good luck!!

k3n 06-29-2009 09:20 AM

Vicki that's fabulous! I love it! And the border arrangement really sets it off.

sewlady31 06-29-2009 09:26 AM

Thanks for the info. I am the type of person that needs the visual to
see how it is actually going to turn out.
I would like to make up a few of these, for my nephews clan, they
lost their belongs and house in a fire, so when they get situated I thought
that I would have quilts similar so they would somewhat match for his
four little ones. If I go with more complicated piecing, they might be
graduating before I get them all done.
Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Ducky 06-29-2009 09:27 AM

Terrific! The border is great. It looks comfortable, doesn't it?

bearpaw 06-29-2009 12:24 PM

Thanks K!! :D

Thanks Ducky - it is a very comfy couch quilt!!

Your welcome Sewlady31 - they go together very quick.

ChattanoogaRocks 06-29-2009 12:48 PM

Oh, it's beautiful! I love how you made the backing - Well done!

sewjoyce 06-29-2009 01:12 PM

I just love that! (What size were your squares?)

bearpaw 06-29-2009 03:41 PM

Thanks ChattanoogaRocks!

sewjoyce, thanks - the squares were 5".

I did a table runner with 5" squares but thought they were too big for the project. So I did another table topper using 4 1/2". It made a square of about 31" -- still trying to decide if I like it or not

But your quilt is gorgeous!! Have you tried the D9P using anything besides 5" square?

Thanks! This was my first DP9. Would love to see a pic of your table runner and table topper. I wonder what really small squares would look like for a mini quilt or maybe a tote bag. Hmmmm, got me thinking now!

Joan 06-30-2009 05:33 AM

Very nice design--has a contemporary feel to it!

And red, white and blue--what could be more appropriate
for this time of the year!!!!

sewjoyce 06-30-2009 05:36 AM

Here is the link to my D9P: http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/20174.page

This was my first attempt, too. Gee, a tote bag made with say, 3" blocks? Wow -- might have to try that out

I haven't finished the table topper yet -- on the agenda for quilting this week. It's for Christmas so I'm not in a real rush -- yet!

bearpaw 06-30-2009 08:20 AM

Thanks Joan!

sewjoyce - I really like your table runner! I love how all the different fabrics make the pattern look so different than mine. Seriously considerin the tote - haven't made a tote yet, maybe I'll practice on one piece of fabric first, then move on to the patchwork.
