Applique. The lettering is from MS-Word. The diver was a pic I found online and blew up.

What a great quilt, and I love the wording on it. This is one of those that I would enjoy warching his face glow as he opened it up, I love your design. Also I don't think I would have even noticed the 2 toned table top because your place mats are to cute to see the table underneath.
