This was my first quilt ever. I thought about putting it on my etsy site. Did you guys keep your first quilt?

sueisallaboutquilts 06-14-2010 08:58 AM

I kept mine b/c even though it's not gorgeous it reminds me of what a huge, happy door it opened for me :D
Yours is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!! I say KEEP IT !! :D

Pam 06-14-2010 08:58 AM

If you are attached, hang onto it, if not, let it go! I have my first, gave away #2, I really don't think anyone would want #1.

Elizabeth-Liz 06-14-2010 09:02 AM

yes, I did. It is a crib size, and I have it hanging on my wall. Just can not bring myself to part with it. I pieced and machine quilted and actually did a pretty fair binding on it. It it is in batiks.

Pineapple Princess 06-14-2010 09:10 AM

Keep it, otherwise you might regret it two or three years down the road

vjengels 06-14-2010 09:13 AM

I lost my 'first' quilt sometime not too long after I made it; I think it went the same way as various blankets, towels and sheets... my ex never seemed to have a drop cloth on the job when he needed it...
I did just give away my first hand quilted, sampler that I made around 1997 when I got serious about quilting... you know it didn't bother me to give up the quilt it's self, as I don't care for those colors any longer, but I miss all the beautiful handwork on it.

thequilterslink 06-14-2010 09:14 AM

I have my first 5-6 quilts, i didn't think they were good enough to give away lol. Yours is great!

quiltinggrandmaca 06-14-2010 09:18 AM

I gave the first quilt I ever made to our oldest son, and he still has it. I think that was back in 1993 or somewhere around that time.

susiequilt 06-14-2010 09:19 AM

I've got mine!

Ducky 06-14-2010 09:24 AM

I also gave my first quilt to my oldest son, who still has it and uses it. As a matter of fact, I've never kept any of my quilts....yet.

patricej 06-14-2010 10:03 AM

i still have my first one.

cashmommy11 06-14-2010 10:13 AM

i saved my frist one and always will keep it just to show me how far i have come .

bj 06-14-2010 10:19 AM

I didn't keep one until about the 20th one. And it was a gift for my dh. My first was a baby quilt for a friend at work. I did take a picture of it. I didn't get pictures of the last few. My camera has bitten the dust, but the quilts needed to go to their new homes.

Elsie 06-14-2010 10:29 AM

no i gave mine to my mother cause she wanted it and now they buried it with her that was her wish but i do love your quilt it is beautiful

LaurieE 06-14-2010 10:41 AM

I have my first quilt. Actually I should say my dog has my first quilt. It was made with 50-50 poly/cotton. Over the years the cotton fabric disintegrated.

I vote for you keeping your first quilt.

Lori B. 06-14-2010 10:54 AM

Beautiful Quilt! I kept my first one so I can compare it to the newer ones and see how much I have improved. :)

Quilting D 06-14-2010 11:08 AM

Yup, still do. Talked about giving it away a couple times, not that it was that wonderful, but my sweetie said, O No, that was your first quilt, don't give it away. Funny thing is he wants to keep every quilt I make. Says things like o not that one it was your first try at applique, or not that one we had such fun on that vacation when you found that pattern. He's my biggest fan, can you tell?

dglvr 06-14-2010 11:10 AM

Ohhh keep it. I still have mine. Well not really my mom has it on her bed. So I get to see it once in awhile. If you get rid of it you'll wish you had it on down the road. Its very cute.

I have my first quilt, and second one here too.

charismah 06-14-2010 11:33 AM

My dogs have my first quilt lol. I didn't use very good fabric. I used it on the couch and washed it so many times that it faded so they got it and love it. The second one, better fabric. ...is still on the couch and gets washed often. It still looks wonderful. All the rest of my quilts are rolled up on fabric roller in my doll room. I keep all my quilts lol...unless I get an offer I can't refuse...Now I have made quilts that I have given to family and friends.

Lori S 06-14-2010 12:13 PM

I was glad to get rid of my first quilt. It was .....bad. My second was not much better either. Just thinking about them I am embarrased. They were ...Sooooo bad, but that was over 35 years ago and I have thankfully learned a thing or two.

saf45 06-14-2010 12:13 PM

no i gave mine to my mom,she loved it ,was really ugly lol. now my dd has it.

diannemc 06-14-2010 12:21 PM

My first quilt was a gift..it was hard giving it up but I did!

Cuilteanna 06-14-2010 12:32 PM

No, it was truly horrid and I have the photographs to prove it!

sweet 06-14-2010 12:34 PM

I vote to keep it for now. You can make another for ETSY.

CarrieAnne 06-14-2010 12:35 PM

I made a baby quilt for a gift as my first quilt!

cwessel47 06-14-2010 12:40 PM

I made my first quilt as a wedding gift for my best friend in high school. Then, Mom cut 4 1/2" squares from the leftovers of clothing she made for us in the 60's 'cause I had "made a quilt" with that size square. I still have it! It is a falling apart mess - but so warm and cozy. Two layers of batting - only tied. I patch it once in a while. My kids love it to death. We've found it works as a moving blanket too. But it always comes back. To embarrass me, I guess.

charmpacksplus 06-14-2010 12:49 PM

It is precious and no doubt you could sell it on Etsy, but keep it! I kept mine so that I can compare it to those yet to come. One day when I'm an old pro I can look at it and see all the things I did wrong and see how far I've come.

Melinda in Tulsa 06-14-2010 01:22 PM

I never finished my first quilt, it was so bad! I did get it pieced, but never quilted it. I keep it to show myself how far I've come. One day I plan to finish it just because.

katmom54 06-14-2010 02:18 PM

I guess the real question is...do you WANT to keep it? If it isn't something you want to keep...then may as well sell to buy more fabric!

jljack 06-14-2010 02:19 PM

I have my first quilt, and it hangs proudly in my living room on a rack with my others. I show it happily and announce that it was my very first. Yes, I have kept it, although it has been asked for several times by family members. Nope...that one's mine!! :-)

dkabasketlady 06-14-2010 03:04 PM

I'd keep your first quilt. Make another one to put on Etsy! Your quilt is adorable.

CAROLJ 06-14-2010 05:33 PM

Darling quilt.

Yes I have mine, it is thread bare, made with flour sacks and an old blanket as batting.

Boston1954 06-14-2010 05:35 PM

No, my sister talked me out of it. But I made another just like it for myself.

FranW 06-14-2010 06:08 PM

I vote keep it:)

QuiltingGrannie 06-14-2010 06:17 PM

I have my first one hanging in my sewing studio right above my sewing area. I made it in memory of my mother who was a seamstress. It is a wall hanging of "Antigue Spools" with my own touches of color and detail.
My second one I gave away.

roseOfsharon 06-14-2010 06:20 PM

aww it is so cute, I would have trouble parting with it :) unless someone in the family were having a baby girl :)
