I bought and washed/dried 5 yards of WoW fabric to complete my fabric pile to make my husband a king size patriotic double irish chain!! It's going to be scrappy..... scrappy reds and blues. Then just the one WoW fabric.
I'm doing mine with the single chain of red with blue chains on either side. Cutting my strips 2 1/2 inches. Have you made one like this? I'd love to see pics!!! I'm working from a black and white drawing pattern (the old Eleanor Burns book), so I've never actually seen one like I'm making. LOL |
I made this one in purple, olive green, and cream. Hope this gives you an idea of what your quilt might look like.

I have never made an Irish Chain, but I think your idea for a red, white and blue one is really going to be pretty! I found these websites with instructions
http://www.quilterscache.com/D/Doubl...hainBlock.html http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/IrishChain/IrishChain.html And the rest of these are pics of different Irish Chain quilts I found on webshots that I thought might give you some ideas. Good luck and let me know what you decide. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...26962839yWlvHL http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...64464954YNmfWL http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...46532402IzZHYk http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...72978081uCrKdG http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...25676247MxVwcg http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...43898656YeDNZx http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...68722779gcAEZb http://good-times.webshots.com/photo...96553530etqiNU |
Wow you got a lot of good places to visit...good luck! :D

My gosh, Marcia, thankyou!! I hope mine comes out as pretty as those examples!!!
I got a nice amount done last night.... I was going to piece whole blocks together as I went, but I want it to be 100% randomly scrappy with the fabrics I have, so I have to just piece all of the strip sets before assembling ANY blocks. So that I'm sure everything is scrambled properly. hehehe |
Marcia, thanks for posting the site for The irish chain quilts...great directions!

http://www.quilterscache.com/D/Doubl...hainBlock.html She has quite a few examples linked from page 3 of the pattern. I used an old pattern book plus hers to make mine. Her's had a better, more understandable block view. I ended up making my filler outside 1/2 blocks last |
