Doll Quilt & coordinating Rag Doll

4 Attachment(s)
Made this rag doll and coordinating doll quilt for my oldest granddaughter's 2nd birthday (today). The quilt is approximately 18X18" with fusible appliqued ladybugs...I FMQ'd the quilt on my domestic machine using a Sulky variegated teal/green thread. I doodled around on the lady bugs and did a freehand diagonal across the rest of the quilt. I tried something new on the "binding" as well...it's not bound...I just layered the quilt with the right sides of the top and backing together and then the batting and stitched it all together, leaving a couple inches to allow me to turn it all right side out...then I stitched in the ditch between my border blocks and the main quilt body. I don't think that I'd ever use this method on a large quilt with heavy use...but it worked great for the doll quilt and I'd use it for small wall hangings, rug mugs and other similar projects...it was a real time saver. I added the appliqued satin hearts on the back after a small boo-boo snipping a thread tail, but I love the addition of color.
The doll's dress also has an appliqued lady bug. I drew the face with a Sakura pen and then used crayons to color tint her features. This is my second rag doll & doll quilt and I really enjoy making these coordinated teams...my first one was posted in December and can be seen at http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...y-t258003.html if you're interested.

Love it. You are quite the artist. Sure that your DGD will also love it. Great colors and her eyes match the color of the dress. You sure made sweet lemonade out of a oops lemon. BrendaK

Aw, very sweet. Your little quilt is darling. And, your doll has so much expression. Nice job. What a great gift for a 2 year old.
