Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt
2 Attachment(s)
This was a special request couch size quilt. The request was for "modern looking shades of brown". That's hard for a girl who loves 1930's reproductions and has every shade of pink created.
It's from the Missouri Star Quilt Co. tutorial for double slice layer cake quilts. I used yardage instead of a layer cake, so mine has less fabric variations. The FMQ on it went oddly well. In fact, I'd say this is the first one I'm more please with than not pleased. It's like something clicked and it just worked. Weird. As an aside, why are my pictures always smushed together? I'd love to know how to fix that. |
very nice great colors!!!
Nice job, love the fabric.
It's very pretty! I love browns too.
That looks YUMMY and it looks modern too! great job for what might be a difficult request for someone who likes 30s LOL
That's really nice. I like the fabrics a lot. Good job quilting.
I don't know about smushed, but at least they are not sideways!
Re the photos, try using your space bar to separate the pics just like they were paragraphs. I think that works...
Thanks for the compliments and the picture tip!
very nice soft colours
Great quilt and quilting!
I love it!!!!! Not sure on the picture problem mine did the same thing!!!
Great quilt, and soft colors.
Great job!
Nice! Your fmq-ing is great. This quilt makes me wanna wrap up in it with a nice warm cup of coffee. Great job!
I really like it. I love pink also but this would be great for a man quilt too.
Very nice! You did a great job!
I have a layer cake and now I know why I was keeping it. Thank you for the idea.
Lovely quilt - great job. |
Love the woody look of this and especially the dots one, which I have a yard of. :0
This is definitely a stretch from 1930's and pinks but you did very nice work on it. The fabrics and the quilting are wonderful.
I really like it, and love the colors and fabrics and pattern.
I love the color combinations in that quilt. Could use it right now. somehow we were left off the propane Co's route this month, and we are out of propane. Its COLD in here till they get here this afternoon
Your quilt is lovely. You have inspired me to make one. Already checked out the video.
Did you use 40 layer cake squares? What size did it end up? |
What a great job. The colors and layout is great. One of these days I will try the FMQ. Yours looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice...
Very nice quilt! Looks great.
Very pretty. BrendaK
Great quilt and quilting!
The quilt turned out nice. I'm sure the owner is happy with it.
Beautiful quilt! An all brown quilt doesn't sound interesting to me but your use of different shades and prints of brown fabric works. And your fmq is fantastic. I feel like I'm still learning to fmq, get a little better each time, but yours looks like you've been doing it for a long time!
My FMQ consists almost entirely of a meander. I can't seem to get motifs figured out yet. More practice, I guess.
Same here. I mostly meander but have tried using a few stencils, didn't do too bad. Would like to learn how to do "feathers". I'm inconsistent. As you say, more practice! I think it's fun to do.
Like the colors and great job on the quilting.
very nice!!
beautiful job and the brown shades look great... she will enjoy for a long time... and so will others since it will be out on the couch.. great work
I love the earth tones you chose for the quilt.
VERY PRETTY and looks easy, too.
It is lovely. I have made the blocks with a layer cake my sister gave me. I am hoping to get it made into a top next week. I made the blocks last summer and had to put it on the back burner to get some commissions from work colleagues done.

I like ALL colors.....bright white to the darkest black... Just so happen to be going shopping today for a few pinks and greens to start cutting for this pattern. Can't wait to get it started and completed of course.
