okay, I am at a delema.
I need to "draw" the quilting pattern on the quilt that I am working on. I don't know what to use though. what pencils, chalk, markers or such will guarantee washout? Here is the quilt that I am working. any suggestions would be very helpful. I am totally at a loss as to what to do. you guys are the best thanks. the solid blue section I am doing a "ropeing" pattern and need to draw it on so that it looks right. the rest I am probably just going to do cross hatching.

I use chalk. It washes out.

what kind of chalk? just your average street sidewalk chalk for kids?

Chalk or the Chalk pencil (fons and porters). My that is stunning work, I see why you want to make sure it washes out. Great quilt.

I just use childhood chalk.... it tends to be cheaper

altho, I think I need to find an oldfashioned (?) chalkholder like the teachers used to have...back when they still had chalk boards!... my quilting helper ( Zipster- the cat) has taken to playing with it ( rolling it off the table ) and chewing on it.... sigh... It is kinda funny when he chews on it... U see, he is a dark grey cat.. and the white chalk REALLY shows up on his face!! hehehehe

I use stencils and a pounce pad. Can you find a stencil that will work for you.

I will add my 2 cents on what NOT to use. Crayola washable markers. They aren't as washable as they claim to be.

Noooo dont ever use washable crayola makers they will shadow later in time.

I have kids that have gotten those washable markers on their cloths and washable they are not, however, those really cheep ones washed right out. hehe go figure.

Your quilt top is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Whatever you decide to use, TEST IT ON SCRAPS FIRST! I learned this lesson the hard way--there's an almost done small quilt in my closet that I CANNOT get the marks out of even though I used a "washout fabric marker". (Luckily my disaster quilt wasn't nearly as nice as your quilt top!)

I have had good luck with the blue wash out fabric markers and the heat removeable pounce chalk...
