Most of my Dresden Plate top is finished. It still needs borders and I can't decide how to do them. I'm thinking some kind of scrappy to go with the scrappy plates. Of course, that will require buying more 1930's repros!
I can't get far enough away to get the whole quilt in the picture in my tiny bedroom. View #1 View #2 My favorite block |
Just beautiful!!

Oh I LOVE IT!!! I have just fallen in love with the 30s fabrics :D I'm collecting them to do a GFG some day.

Make a scalloped border in white with maybe a simple vine or just plain white scallops.
Or maybe "piano keys" in your left over pieces. And it's really beautiful, great job! |
I love it for the "old fashioned" look. I just have to try one of these in the near future. Great job!.

That is beautiful, and I think the scrappy border would really set it off. I just love the 1930's colors

It's beautiful

I love Dresdens and your quilt with the '30s fabrics is wonderful.

its very pretty nice job

I think that since you have so many different colors in your plates, that any one of the 30's fabrics that you find, that looks good in the bedroom, would make a perfect border. You could do a border of one fabric, or if you have some scraps left over a piano key border would work well. It just depends on how big you want the quilt to be, as to what kind of border it needs. Not all quilts really need framing, but I think this one does need the color around the edges.

Very pretty! Thanks for sharing. I love the Dresden Plate quilts. That was the first quilt I pieced when I was a teenager. Still have it. It's never been used. Mama quilted it for me many many years ago. I am almost 71 and you can see how old it is.

Your Dresden Plate quilt is absolutely beautiful. I have plates done, they are all in a blue print fabric, just haven't had the time to get them finished into a quilt. I look forward to seeing how you did your borders.

It's wonderful! I love 1930s fabric and the dresden plate block!

i like the look of your plates. i did a quite large dresden quilt also. i did not put a border on it and it looks nice. sometimes borders take away from the quilt, and in this instance your quilt is beautiful as is.

great quilt top

Your quilt is beautiful. I want to make a dresden plate quilt one day.
|
It is very pretty! I think a piano key border would be really nice too!

WOW! Gorgeous! I love Dresdan Plate...someday, I shall do one!

Gorgeous! You don't have scraps left over from that quilt to make a scrappy border? I think that type of border would look good on that quilt.
|
I also think a wide, busy border like piano keys would be nice, and you should scallop the edge too. The top is beautiful!

I am working on a Dresden Plate at present, however it doesn't look nearly as good as yours. Great job.
!!!!!!!!!! |
Thank you all for the nice comments.
I'm thinking I'll do the piano key border, but I don't have any scraps left over. The quilt is made from 5 inch squares bought from E-bay and our own McQuilter. I wanted as many different fabrics as I could get and that seemed the best way to do it. I'm sure I'll be able to come up with more fabric to make the border. I do like the idea of a scalloped border, but I'm not sure my nerve could take it. I've never done that before. I need to look at some instructions and see if I could handle it. |
A piano key border in the scrappy fabric would be cute to finish it off!
Connecting threads. Has a great assortment of 30's themed fabric at a good price you can get charm packs fat quarter bundles or fat eighths. |
very nice...great job
