Drunkard’s Path finish

I have always loved Drunkard’s Path blocks, but I was nervous to try them. I bought a die for my Accuquilt cutter, and I decided to try it. The process was astonishingly painless. I used fat quarters for the fabrics, a collection from Connecting Threads, and DH decided he wanted a random, scrappy look. He chose the layout too (after all, the quilt is for his lap on cold days), and we decided to call it “Rising Moon.” I would probably have chosen something dull like a traditional 4 block with the circle in the middle. I used Quilter’s Dream wool batting and a simple meander to keep the loft. Binding is applied by machine as I always do, and this time I used a serpentine stitch. It has been machine washed and machine dried, and the texture and softness are just luscious. I will definitely be making more quilts with this block.

The quilt came out very pretty. Hubby's got good design instincts.

Love the quilt and Drunkards Path is one of my favorite patterns. The layout is so pretty. Your DH has great ideas on layout of the blocks

Curves intimidate me too. Glad you took the leap because that is a great quilt. Love the colors. Using solids really worked well. I'm sure your DH is thrilled with this quilt!

Your quilt is sooooo pretty! I am a huge fan of the DP and especially using the 7 1/2" Accuquilt die. I too just finished a large quilt and it is now out to be LA'ed and I am so excited. You did a beautiful job on this quilt. Your colors are perfect. DH will be pleased. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks folks. My husband actually has a much better eye for color than I do so I always take him with me when buying fabrics. By myself I am too conventional LOL! I always recognize how much better his choice is when he shows me, but I never would have thought to pull the same fabrics he does. Obviously I will have to consult him on layouts now too. Now if it would ever cool off here he might get to use it.

Lovely job on your curved piecing! Your husband chose a very cool layout. Great quilt!

First time I've seen that block used so effectively with solids. Love it!
