Dye fabric + Ricky Tims pattern

Hi there,

Last period I am dyeing my own fabric. I will show you my two attempts.

This was the first attempt I did together with my mom. We went to a class to learn how to dye fabric. I made a light serie and my mom a dark serie of colors. We used poplin cotton. My mom wanted to try out a pattern from Ricky Tims with the fabrics. So we made this.

Last week I dyed my second serie of fabrics. This time I used the cheapest cotton from ikea. It works very well. The fabric shows more spots/blots. I like that.

Now my question to you is; Have you ever tried to dye your own fabric? And how where the results?

your dyed fabrics turned out very well

Great colors! I do not dye fabrics! It's too messy, but hats off to you.

I went through that phase using the plastic bag method. Loved it and had good results but was very messy. I still use pieces of it today.

Your work is beautiful. What brand of dyes did you use--if European, pls let me know the website address. I am interested in dyeing cotton. I have had great results with wool in the crock pot with acid dyes. I just did a sampler kit of procion dyes that I purchased at the Paducah quilt show. I used super cheap muslin, and I believe that it was "unmercerized" as it was not as vibrant as I expected. However, I added a small swatch of silk organza to the same pots, and they turned out beautifully.

I love the "feel" of your first batch (series), the colors are so soft looking!

And, yes, I have dyed my own fabrics using commercial dyes and also using the leftover or "bleeding" from commercial fabrics that give my own fabrics special soft colors. Blues and reds are best for this. I once dyed a pale pink fabric this way and then painted leaves and pressed them to the fabric to leave leaf designs afterwards. Very pretty.
