If you used commercially dyed fabric, it would be pretty easy: apply wonder under to back of black fabric. Trace design on freezer paper and apply to front of black fabric: cut out; fuse black fabric to background fabric.

How fun! What dyes did you use? And can you say how you thickened them?

They are fiber reactive procion dyes (I get mine from Dharma, but this was using someone else's supplies, so I'm not quite sure.) You thicken them by using a mixture of chemical water (urea) and sodium alginate. If you google, you can find recipes.

This allows you to use dye like paint; but since it is still actually dye, the hand of the fabric is not changed the way it is when you paint on it.

It's from a photo of one sitting just outside our house. I was lucky he had one with his head turned, the others wouldn't have worked. The photo was taken last year. This year we didn't have many eagles.
