nwm50 04-22-2010 05:58 AM

Hi nwm 50 - I think this would work with any size blocks. Looks like this one may have 6" squares.
Just pick two contrasting fabrics, a dark and a light. You will cut an equal number of equal size squares from each fabric.
Then lay them out so that you have a four patch unit (4 pieces of fabric) with the darker colors on opposite corners of the lighter colors. Sew the top two in your foursquare together. Sew your bottom two together. Then sew the two rectangles together. This makes one block. You can make as many blocks as you need.
I hope this is not too confusing.
;) :D

nwm50 04-22-2010 10:11 AM

To JennyPenny: I think that I understand what you're saying but i will try this weekend. Thanks for helping me out, so i lay them out as 1 block of 4 peices and then attached the next block alongside of it and so on, until the next row and so on as the 1st row?? Duh..hope i didn't confuse u?

Pattiannie 04-22-2010 01:22 PM

nice work on the quilts

mimee4 04-22-2010 01:25 PM

I had to look at the pattern closely to see how you made up the 4 patch blocks. Very nice.

the scrubs place advertises in the back of quilting magazines. my mom noticed the ad, got some, then i did. their name is HICE, i haven't ordered any in about 4 yrs, because i just really overdid it for a while. the matarial was so pretty. 1-800-752-4927 is phone #. at the time it was $25 for a huge box. like a foot and half square, and 4 ft tall. plus shipping by ups. it was $25 to michigan.
here's another one----each side of the box was 1 1/2 foot.+the box was 4 ft. long.

yes, they do. the girls just wash and wash them. just a tiny bit of fading after years. it's a poly/cotton blend, but feels like cotton.

reginalovesfabric 04-23-2010 05:52 AM

wow another recycled fabric quilt, how cleaver and nice.

I love them. But I know I could never make one in two days. I'm putting together a bunch of 4-patches for my guild quilts right now. Just took a break because it's so boring.
Love your quilts though. Every one is great!

sewNso 04-23-2010 03:39 PM

now, we are not going to kid ourselves. it would be a dawn to dusk task for 2 days all day.--with scraps, and cutting and sewing l square at a time. ---- but if you did strip sewing, (eleanor burns method) you know what i mean? then it wouldn't be such long days. and you might even be able to get one done in l long day, if you pushed yourself. a queen, double, or twin.

Jannie 04-23-2010 04:27 PM

nwm50 04-23-2010 07:32 PM

to do this in just 2 days, you have to machine quilt it, i like opposing loops, know what i mean?-- the length of the quilt, then do it again. and I sew the binding on the machine, and zig zag the binding down on the back. if you are real careful, it looks nice on the front also. and i almost always use unbleached 200 count muslin for my backs. i buy the best muslin i can find, usually with a 40% of coupon.

JCL in FL 04-26-2010 05:51 PM

how clever of you. I'm into being green. You made some nice quilts anyone would be happy to have. Good job.

sewNso 04-27-2010 04:45 AM

GREEEEEN???????? This ole granny is just trying to stretch her money. my mother was raised during the depression and when she pinched a nickel, it knew it had been pinched. i guess it just rubbed off.
