Efficient use of striped material
2 Attachment(s)
So I had this piece of striped fabric, less than a yard. It had lots of trendy, bright colors in it. I debated for a long time, on numerous occasions, about how to best use it, and I decided on this layout. I used 10" solid squares I got from Connecting Threads during one of their clearance sales. I used the striped material for the binding as well. Like I said, it was less than a yard, probably closer to a half yard, and I wanted to make the best use of it.
I backed it with white flannel, as nothing else really worked and the white made the background of the striped material pop. It turned out really cute and cheery, perfect for the baby shower my daughter attended for a coworker. I will keep this in mind for future irresistible striped scraps that make their way into my stash! |

So that's how it's done. Great idea.
|
Perfect placement of your stripes...it really adds interest to the quilt. Doesn’t it feel good to use up something from your stash?
|
That is just really cute-especially for a new baby. I also love to use stripe or plaid fabrics in quilts-especially on the bias for the borders. Stripes have a special 'zing'.
|
That was good thinking. Nicely done!
|
What a fun way to incorporate stripes! Love this!

It worked out great. A good feeling when you can use up something you already have. Good job!

I tend to keep my striped fabrics for binding as it adds a nice touch without being over whelming. Nice job on your quilt. Will have to try your idea on a quilt.

Love, love, love that border. I'm always on the look out for fabric that stripes in that particular direction on the bolt. Seems hard to find. Good job,Willferg, really striking!
|
Cute. I also like the diagonal printed strips for bindings.
|
I love to do that with stripes. Also, cutting them on the diagonal gives a really fun look to the binding. I had one piece of fabric (not sure why I bought it, must have been $1 clearance and I was going to use it as scrap!), but it was black with small stained glass crosses on it. It looked truly awful! I had made a black top with some bright simple d9p blocks. It needed something. I cut the crosses diagonally and used it for binding - PERFECT! Just a little touch of color at the edge without really seeing what they were. Another happy accident!

That's a beautiful quilt.
