Elmer's glue stick

1 Attachment(s)
I am getting ready to quilt a table runner and decided to glue baste with Elmer's glue stick. Since the 80/20 is fairly stable, I held it down with my fingers and smeared a bit of glue every 4 inches. I ironed it after smoothing the backing back over it and it seems to be working well. I don't know if it will be visible in the picture. I will post back after quilting after I decide what I want to quilt, hmmmm, that could take a while. Why is that always the hardest part of machine quilting?

Figuring how I want to quilt something is my hardest thing also. I can spend days to come up with something. Also nights when the brain won't quit.:D

Let us know how it works out.

I start with a small area and then ideas just come to me so think what to do as I go.

Interested in hearing how this works for you. I'm a spray baster amd heard of this technique but never tried it.

I almost always just FMQ, move my hands as I want. No decision to make on my part.

Can't wait to see your quilting design choices. Is the Elmer's Glue Stick you used have a disappearing purple color ? I have not been able to find a white glue stick. Thank you!

I stocked up on white Elmer's glue sticks in the August back to school specials at Walmart. I was getting ready to start quilting when I noticed one end of my runner curved instead of being straight at one end. I tried to peal it up but it was really stuck, I sprayed it with water until it was wet and I was able to carefully peel up the one end and reposition and iron. I have started to quilt it and I am pleased with how it is holding. When I finished, I will post the back. I don't know if I would use it for a full quilt but for small projects I will definately use it again.

I have not tried the glue stick for basting...please let us know the end result. I agree, I’m not sure how it would hold up on a full quilt but it might work for a crib size (?).

Have fun! Personally, I just pin or spray baste small things for dsm, one less thing to wash! big stuff gets put on longarm....I've never used Elmer on anything fabric. Just my way of doing.....
