My granddaughter is staying with me for a few weeks and she wanted to make a quilt. She did it all herself with the exception of help with pinning and a few seams that needed ripped out and redone.

Ducky 08-04-2009 08:56 AM

She did a terrific job, didn't she? Did she pick out the fabrics, too? Working with my granddaughter, once she gets old enough, is something I'd love to do, too. I bet you had fun. So, did she or you rip stitches out and resew those areas?

Very nice! Congratulations Emily! Did you put a label on it to show for posterity that it was Emily's first quilt and when it was made, where and all that jazz!
Keep up the chain of quilty people!

Oh, I bet you are so proud! Take lots of pictures just in case something happens to the quilt itself.

She did a great job, and I bet this is just the first of many! Think how good she will be in 30 years!!!!!!!

Harmony 08-04-2009 10:26 AM

Way to go, Emily! I guess she likes horses and cats! That makes her fit right in here!

Cresha 08-04-2009 10:53 AM

She did almost all of the ripping. She soon learned she didn't like it and if she went slow she didn't have to do it nearly as often. She loves animals of any kind and wants to be a vet when she grows up. We spend hours lookng for horse stories at the library so if any one knows of a good horse story, please let us know.

I love to hear about kids quilting! I took me till I was in my 40's to start up, and I regret all those years that I didn't quilt (though the love of quilts and the desire to learn was there, I just didn't till 40+). It's so good to hear that they won't miss out on what I did! My 5 1/2 yr old g.d. has been helping me a bit with her double Irish chain quilt.

How old is Emily? My 10yo dd has fabric picked out to make a quilt. She found a picture online that she likes and we're going to start on it next week. She's so excited! She loves to sew.

Emily will be 12 in November. We are going today to get the batting so she can quilt it. After it is quilted, she is going to make some pjs.

She did a great job and will love cuddling under this reading all those horse stories. I read every horse book I could when I was her age also. (Most of them are out of print by now!)
