We made these a long time ago but I think the pattern is not often used, although it is simple. Great for scrappy quilts which these are. You sew them in strips (horizontally). You have to be careful of the points.

I don't think I would have the patience to do that. These are awesome quilts.

I love this pattern. I thought about doing one years ago. Even started cutting the triangles. But I never got to the sewing part. Now I don't know what I did with the triangles. Guess that project will go nowhere for me. I congratulate you on sticking with it.

Wow! Just love the look of your quilts - eye popping!! Is this something a semi-beginner could tackle??? I have tons of scraps :)

ptquilts 02-17-2011 03:47 PM

yes, it's not too hard. Just separate them into darks and lights and alternate. Darks point up and lights point down. Sew strips the width of the quilt, then sew strips together. Use half triangles on ends.

My reply is; Well, good for you! Not in my lifetime! I am having a time with HSTs the quickie way. Would never attempt that one :!:

Beautiful quilts! I wonder how many triangles, did you count!

Enjoy the art~

Very pretty quilts. I may have to do that with all of my scraps.

BizzieLizzie 02-17-2011 04:15 PM

Lovely!

kriscraft99 02-17-2011 04:39 PM

I love it!! I would need somebody to cut the triangles for me - and I heard if it the points are cut off, it makes sewing easier - is that true?? My sister has some placemats made from Equilateral triangles, much larger, and I love them :)

dunster 02-17-2011 04:39 PM

I would go cross-eyed matching that many points. Good job! They are beautiful quilts.

ilovetosew 02-17-2011 04:44 PM

Those are both great! I haven't tried this pattern.

Any easy way to cut all of these?

Jan T 02-17-2011 08:29 PM

I think this pattern is called "Thousand Pyramids." That might be an understatement.

Your quilts are gorgeous!

Any chance you'd put together a tutorial? (I ask largely because I'm hoping they're not as difficult as they look. But they probably are EXACTLY that hard!)

We made them in 2 sizes, one had pieces about 3" high, the other about 2" high.
DH just made a cardboard pattern and cut from scraps. He does all my cutting.

Those are fantastic and gorgeous! Of course I am partial to scrappy quilts. Nice job.
