I agree that taking out the whites would make a huge difference - or trying sashing. But, having said that, I also know very well what happens when you have it in your head that it is bad. You just don't want it as a quilt - anymore. Ok, so think outside the box. Holidays are coming up - what about taking a couple of the 4 blocks and making a few tote bags and fill with an inexpensive bottle of wine or bath stuff as a gift. What about cutting thru the white ones to make large stockings - again to use as gift holders. I'm not a big pot holder fan, but a couple potholders and a matching tea towel would be a great gift. Maybe you already have a whole lot of your neighbors gifts half made!! Quilters do not have mistakes, we just have happy accidents!

I had 2 offers to finish it and donate it, so that takes care of that. Now I don't have to think about it anymore. It is a nightmare. Blah! I am glad it is going to something good. I really don't care if they take it all apart or for , I just want it gone.

A bit busy but a learning curve all the same

The bright white blocks do tend to distract from the other blocks. I like the idea suggested that you put in a sashing between the blocks, just to give the eyes a resting place. I would finish it and make it into a tree skirt, they don't have to be round. Jenny Doan on MSQC has a tree skirt tutorial, it might give you an idea on how to finish your quilt into a tree skirt, and once you start putting presents under the tree, the quilt will "seem to disappear".

Oh yes. Often I can do something to "improve what I have done." Like the suggestions that are being offered here. Some quilters can make everything look better. I am not there yet.

Wow if you hate that i'll have it, its gorgeous, and I love your colour choice and pattern.
|
Yay! It's gone and you don't have to be troubled by it anymore.

Hope that you find a good intervention for your quilt ..

Please DO finish it and donate it to a senior center. Someone will love it and feel very special that it was given to them.

Good for you for showing and telling your "quilt of frustration".
Double good for whoever is going to fix and donate it. I have made things that I thought were beautiful and the first one, I freakin' messed up out of ignorance. I did not know about measuring so carefully etc. back then, but I do love it for grand mousling's drag about. You probably don't have this problem, this was just a fluke, but I can pick beautiful fabrics and then get stumped on what should go with what and what pattern. Oh, I know all about color wheels etc. I have a head full of quilt knowledge. That's the problem! I know so much, I have trouble using it ~sigh~ Since you solved your problem, I thought perhaps you wouldn't mind letting another frustrated quilter vent :p |
"the first snow of christmas" beautiful...

I think you should rearrange the whites. All of your colors are centrally located and your whites are stuck out there by themselves.
|
Been there, done that. I have a log cabin scrappy started and when I actually took a look at it . . . well, it's in my "later" box. I think it's the pattern's fault.

I have experienced this, and found that a community group is always glad to get something we made and don't like. Even the Fire Dept., Police Dept, homeless shelters, ect, all wish they had more quilts.Mariah.
