Thought I'd try this out. Think I like the unwhacked ones better.

Before the whacking.

Too pretty to whack.

Funny you should post this. But I just read through a whack book and they recommend you stay away from batiks for this type of project as there isn't enough contrast in the fabric to make it interesting.

I have to agree I like the un-whacked blocks better too.

dkabasketlady 06-03-2010 06:16 PM

Me too! The others are too much of an optical illusion, kind of hard on the eyes! I'm sure others will disagree with me, jmo!

CRH 06-03-2010 06:17 PM

I agree with you!! Gorgeous fabrics!!

luv-e 06-03-2010 06:18 PM

un-whacked looks better.

cwessel47 06-03-2010 06:19 PM

I'm a precision nut. I like 'em better unwhacked. Next time you can try just mixing up the blocks on the first sewing. No, you don't get the diagonals. Who needs 'em when you have such great fabric choices. Just love the batiks.

The whacked ones might look better if you put them purple to purple, ect. It might make an interesting illusion, worth a try to give it a turn.

sewnsewer2 06-03-2010 06:23 PM

I agree, unwhacked. They are really pretty.

I like the unwhacked ones but I would like to see Pam's suggestion too!!!
Those batiks are luscious!!!:D:D:D

Quilter7x 06-03-2010 06:29 PM

Hmm, I'm the oddball here, because I like them both.

CarrieAnne 06-03-2010 06:33 PM

I like unwhacked too. That fabric is so pretty!

cjomomma 06-03-2010 06:38 PM

I have to agree, unwhacked is better.

sewgull 06-03-2010 06:39 PM

Like these blocks. I love wild colors.

Teacup 06-03-2010 06:42 PM

I agree the batiks shine in the unwhacked!

OK, I gave one of them a quarter turn. Still like unwhacked better. Thanks for the input and the nice comments.

cjomomma 06-03-2010 06:56 PM

Still like the unwhacked better.

Pineapple Princess 06-03-2010 07:33 PM

I like unwhacked too. This looks too disorganized.

978gray 06-03-2010 07:49 PM

The thrid picture is my favorite!!!

ForestHobbit 06-03-2010 11:44 PM

The unwhacked blocks are beautiful and quite striking.

Gerbie 06-03-2010 11:48 PM

Can't say for sure, I like them both. But I'm leaning toward the unwhacked.

katier825 06-04-2010 03:35 AM

I like the unwhacked ones too.

sewjoyce 06-04-2010 07:32 AM

Love the colors!! And I like the "unwhacked" ones better, too! :D

littlehud 06-04-2010 10:41 AM

I like them both. Silly me.

Same here, both could be used for different ideas. Beautiful colors though.

quiltluvr 06-04-2010 11:09 AM

I really like the unwhacked ones the best. Because I'm not familiar with the technique, forgive me, but it seems like the whacked ones the centers are off or is that part of the charm?

The batiks are gorgeous. :D

nope, I agree with you

Gayle's Quilts 06-04-2010 11:39 AM

I like the unwhacked too.

johnette 06-04-2010 07:12 PM

Yes, the centers are off. Can't quite figure out how I whacked them both exactly the same off center way, but I did. My DD says she likes them, I wish I could undo the whacking.

mimee4 06-05-2010 06:16 AM

I like the unwhacked better. I wonder if you would have better luck with the outside strips if you sewed them on the log cabin way - going around the block. Then you would have one seam per side, not two. Just a thought. the batiks are stunning.

craftybear 06-06-2010 09:32 AM

wow, thanks for sharing

annieshane 06-06-2010 09:50 AM

Unwacked is more pleasant to the eye with these particular fabrics. Can enjoy the fabrics more.

Do post photo when you complete the tope
