They're both about 36" by 47". I switched the blocks around for one.
Sigh... I now have three baby quilt tops to quilt. They're too small to take to the quilters, but I sure do not look forward to doing the quilting myself, especially after seeing the gorgeous artwork quilting on here. I'm afraid I'm going to wreck them. :| Oh--these will get a green binding--maybe light on one and dark on the other. |
Bambum...They are beautiful - GREAT JOB!!!!!!!
I hear you with regards to the quilting...the small ones go ok - if I follow Stitch in the ditch, etc. but I don't have a machince for free motion quilting.... |
Lockeb--Thank you!
I feel safe with stich in the ditch too--but that open space won't work with that. I'm going to need to practice before I try them. Yuck. I need a friend who loves to quilt--hates to make tops. We'd have a lovely relationship. :-D |
Very pretty!!! I bet you come up with an awesome quilting idea :D:D:D
|
Oh, I can SEE lots of neat quilting, but I can't DO it.
|
They're both beautiful but that 2nd one is a really neat setting.
|
Very pretty. I love that light floral fabric. Great job.
|
WOW those look great
|
They're both beautiful. Yes, Karla, you can do it!!! You CAN do it!!
|
Beautiful, Karla!
I got a machine with freemotion control now. It is alot of fun to do, but takes practice and coordination. You did a great job with these tops. |
Hmmmm,,,,,,,well, you could always sell just the tops, and let the buyer quilt them. I know someone  who would snap up one of them!
|
gaigai--you're still buying? Actually, I'd like to keep two and a friend wants to buy another baby quilt, but I think she may want something brighter. If she does, one will be for sale. but--she has no means of quilting this either... I'll check with her.
I'm not worried about the Nursery Rhyme Time one, but quilting these two... shudder. |
Beautiful.
|
Very nice!
|
Karla they're beautiful! And I KNOW you can FMQ! Sending you positive, meandering vibes! :-D
|
My dear bb, I know, without a doubt, that you can not only quilt those tops, but that the workmanship will be better than good!!!
And while I would love to have another bb original, I want to make my own. I just figured it would get a reaction! LOL You are going to do an AWESOME job on quilting those two, and when they are done, we are ALL going to say those four dreaded little words: "We told you so"!!!! :P :P :P :P |
Oh I hope so. It's all those BIG open places... maybe I can trace something on and follow that....
I think I'll avoid it for a bit and move onto the next project. |
Don't put it off. You can do a great job on them. Then you can go on to something else. Than you will have a free mind.
|
Karla, they are so pretty. I'm no expert with the actual quilting either....I keep putting it off. Once the top is done, I lose interest. Maybe you could do a crosshatch grid on the diagonal.....,guess you'd have to mark the open spaces though. Good luck with it.
|
Karla---they are yummy!! I love them both! And ranger beat me to my quilting suggestion for you. A cross hatch on the diagonal is not as "boring" as stitch in the ditch--and not as daunting as FM quilting. And I think it is a quilting pattern that would compliment the TIC. Consider it......

I think I'll avoid it for a bit and move onto the next project. I just stitched right through the middle of each piece. Goes fast and the total does look good. IMHO Triple Irish Chain -baby .. That's a good idea grammyd. Not every IC needs to be quilted as elaborately as mine was. But of course I had mine quilted.
You remember Karla, it was the shamrock fabric DIC, and I had shamrocks in each square, and a ring of shamrocks in the big spaces, and then fields of shamrocks in the border. But somewhere she inserted ONE four-leaf clover!! http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-21784-1.htm I don't have a good close up of the quilting, and it's already gone to my aunt. Of course, I think that if you were to do hearts in each of the center blocks, and then a ring of hearts in each open space, that would be awesome!! (Yeah, I'm just a rabble-rouser at heart). I even have the stencils and patterns you can use, because I did it on another quilt.  |
Those quilts are sweet!! I have no trouble with that size....I have a queensize I am about to start...my shoulders are aching just thinking about it!!
Ditter |
Very nice.
|
Could you quilt a motif in the big spaces instead of FMQ? Say a heart, or something like that. Even if you did that by hand, you could stitch in the ditch everywhere else.
I did that on the blue and yellow heart quilt. I did all the straight lines by machine and hand quilted around the outside of each heart. |

Karla - re the heart motifs if you decide to go with that, I've ironed on freezer paper templates and gone round the edge with my walking foot before now, butting the edge of the foot against the edge of the paper - worked pretty good if you go slow round the bends. Just an idea! :-D
|
OK, I didn't read through all the threads and may be suggesting something totally tabboo in your book but....Why not hand quilt something pretty in the center motifs?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with mixing machine and hand quilting. and it looks great. I've done it on several baby quilts where I have hand quilted a motif that I knew I couldn't do by machine and machine quilted the rest. |
|
beautiful.
|
OH MY! WOW! they are lovely!
|
Those are beautiful. I'm sure you will do a great job quilting them.

I've been playing with ideas. Once I practice I'll have to do them quickly because I'll get bad again right away.
This is an idea from this website: http://www.daystyledesigns.com/index.htm Maybe it'd work in the open blocks, then do a stipple in the others? This one is incompete. I'd have to get the petals smoother...and do a better job at spacing. Will this make it too girly? :| |

I so agree, you can DO anything you put your mind to! I've seen you do things I'm afraid to even try! This is beautiful!! |
Karla...here is what I do...I find a design that I like. It could be a stencil or a clip art file, coloring book...just anything. Then trace it, blow it up to the size you would like. Then...trace it onto vellum or tracing paper. Pin the paper to your quilt top making sure the design in exactly where you want it to end up and then SEW OVER THE PAPER on the lines. Tear the paper off when you are done...people think you are a rock star....Easy breezy...
Editted to say...your quilts are gorgeous by the way! |
sandpat--scroll up--what do you think?
I like your idea... I'm going to look around. |
Fantastic quilts! Both of them are so very nicely made. Great fabrics. Thank You for sharing.
|
Lovely quilts! And go for it with quilting them yourself. Looks like you have some ideas and a plan!
|
Karla - I don't think that is too girly at all and Patti - what a great idea! :-D
