this idea came to me in a dream last night. Not only the idea, but how to make it! I have been avoiding marking on my quilt tops by making a paper stencil and safety pinning it to my quilt then quilting inside the lines... well, that doesn't work very well... so here is my fabric stencil idea that came to me in a dream...

That's a great idea! I do a similar idea with freezer paper & just pin it on & machine quilt around the openings.

First I have to say I LOVE your realistic bear paw quilting motif to put on a bears paw block! Second, what a cleaver idea, you will have to let us know how it works for you.

Tell me how it goes! After you can use the paw for appliqué?

Kim Bohannon 03-31-2012 04:40 PM

It is working very well, and I do have some of the quilting already done... here is the link to that post...

I will post a pic of the quilting in process when I can get someone to help me take the picture! lol... It's kinda hard to handquilt and take a pic at the same time... :p

I'm not sure what you mean by applique... but I am quilting inside the design, then removing the stencil so I can use it in another part of the quilt... it's just my way of avoiding marking the quilt top

Love it when the light bulb goes off and a great idea is born!

This is a good idea! I wonder if you could glue it on with school glue, then wet that one block to remove it.

That is super and looks like it will work perfectly. Your guardian angel gave you the idea in your dream, how super.

Thimblebug, If you are using Freezer paper, why not try ironing it on and avoid pinning the fp stencil? Just a thought...

I tried that one... the freezer paper does not stay put with handquilting
