I'm not sure what it is called but we all have seen the pictures in our quilt magazines. this fabric art of scenes that is fused so artfully in place. these are not washed and are only wall hangings and so beautiful in the artful way they are made with fabric., anyone Here do this? I thought of trying it but decided to do it another way. what I am needing to do is make a banner of our church Saint. Since now I'm on a time limit, this is what I have come up with. I printed the Saint on fabric in 9 letter size fabric panels, I will sew these together and then fabric paint over this as the pixels are soooo noticable, then attach to a banner. Anyone do this and have any advice?

Wow! Thats going to be lovely. Are you trying to get it done for Easter? Is that why you have a deadline? I have never done anything like that. WE (9) other ladies and myself just got one done last year to celebrate our church's 25 year jubilee. We ddi a center panel with a picture of the church, then St FRancis, ST Claire, the first line of the prayer of St FRancis, the cornerstone, a block of the old church, and the bible. Inthe 4 corners we had embroidered the names of the 4 pastors. Down each side, we embroidered all the ministries in the parish.
I can't wait to see how yours turns out.

Looks good. I think a pearly white fabric paint, like Jacquard makes (their Luminere line), would blend the pixels right in... .play on scraps first, as the pint may not take right if fabric hasn't been washed. If stiffness does not bother you, some of the t-shirt type paints would be more opaque.

if the panels do not line up perfectly, you may want to explore a stained glass look. I'd love to see it when it's finished, too.

Oh that will be lovely! I can't wait to see it! I've never used the fabric paints, so I'm no help there. I agree with Moonpi, I think if the panels don't line up, the stained glass look would be gorgeous.

I will make the panels line up...ha...one way or the other...I have until the 31st of this month! Thanks for the advice, I will send a photo when done. Vickie, do you have a phot of yours? would love to see it.

I think this is the link to the page that I posted a few picturs on. I stood too far away for you to see all the details, I am afraid. It was oved at the beginning of the advent season the the parish hadd and I was ble to get closer and took a few more shots of it hanging in the hall there. I will post them if you want a closer view of it.

How did you do the church? looks beautiful!! :D

The church was easy :!: We had an aarchitects sketch from when the church was first designed. Since this is our 2nd building in the total 25 years, the sketch wasn't that old. Anyway, I went to Kinkos and had it blown up ont the machine that makes copies of blue prints. I had 2 copies made. One I kept and used as a pplacement guide: the other I cut up into pieces and used for a pattern. After I ironed the fusible web to the back side, I seamed a piece of blue for he sky and green print for the grass. I had a pressing mat and put my pattern on the mat, then my background piece and then fused the applique pieces to that using the big picture as a placement guide. I went back and top stitched everything after I fused it in place. The leaves for the big trees are green yarn that I glued down using that Roxanne's glue baste and went back with invisible thread using the blind hem stitch and stith them down so they wouldn't fall off. Most of the bushes were just cut out of different greens and fused and top stitched, but I just went free form or make believe with them. The big trees are the same fabric that I used on the roof of the church. It is a brown with random black lines on it.--horizontal for the roof, vertical for the tree trunks. The windows are pieces of a gray print turned wrong side out with that shiny fabric on top of them to look like window glass. The hostas at the base of the pine trees are some kind of green grass cloth that was left over from somebody else used in making banners for the church earlier. They were glued and then top stitched down so they wouldn't fall off.
I had a great time doing it, and it was a lot easier than some of the other blocks that surround it. There is no picture in existance of Saint Claire and one lady just used a pictue of a nun and put her in a brown habit. And St Francis was sort of made up too. I can do it if I have a pattern, but am lost otherwise.

Sounds like so much work!! You said you could give me a closer view? I'd love that...this really interest me.

i am happy to see your church quilt. it's beautiful! i make painted silk hangings for churchs and institutions. it's fun to see how other people do similiar things.
