i have these lovely fabrics that i purchased a few years ago. i had it all planned out what i was gonna make and what patern i was gonna make. well i got it all out and now i am just not loving the patern i was thinking...so here is my delima....do i just go with the patern i picked or do you laides have some other patern ideas for this beautiful fabric....the patern i had in mind is the blue stars but just dont know now

Your fabrics are lovely, and the pattern is lovely. But this happens to all of us at one time or another. You just have to decide if you still want to make it, as is. If not, then look around for another pattern that will fit the fabric requirements you have (if needed, add a few from your stash). Or is the fabric you don't want to use now? In that case, you can get other fabric and make the pattern and save these fabrics for something else.

This is the exact reason I don't make kits. I don't search out fabrics before I'm ready to make a pattern, as the same thing happens to me sometimes. Therefore, I grab the pattern, and if it's going to be awhile, I don't choose fabrics yet. If it's next though, I'll go ahead and grab the fabrics I see and like. What makes it hard is that I LOVE some of the patterns made with the specific fabrics, and in that case, I just have to decide if I will get bored with it or not. Who knows? I certainly don't! :)

I know this is no help...just commiserating with your dilemma :)

Your fabrics are lovely but if you are not loving the pattern any more I would suggest trying to find a pattern you do love that you can use those fabrics with. I think if you are not loving the pattern anymore that you will get bored with making the quilt and it will become a UFO.

yep thats my exact thinking. its the pattern that i am not loving anymore but i still love the fabrics. i was hoping some of you ladies here might give me some pattern ideas

I don't know what you could make with the fabrics you have but just wanted to say that they are beautiful fabrics.

When you see finished quilts on here, what catches your eye? The fabrics and colors are lovely. I'm still stuck in strips and squares. The heart bargello has been calling my name lately, though I wouldn't use the floral stripe except as a border.

Stars have been calling my name as well as bargellos

The most beautiful feathered stars quilt I ever saw was done in the pinks colorway. It was quilted with silver thread and touched ever so slightly here and there with a light tourquoise. I sttod there staring at it almost like a deer in the headlights stunned.

If you don't like the pattern it might be better to find one that you do. There's no incentive to work on a quilt that you don't like. Love the fabrics.

Red Garnet, your choice is lovely, but my heart went to the ones further down with the circular patterns. I'm still thinking a bargello with a few added fabrics and the stripe for the border for the OP.

I really want to try a bargello. Is it possible without a pattern ?

Of course you can make a bargello without a pattern! Just draw it on graph paper. Draw the size/shape you want. Draw some (erasable!) lines to create the curves you want. Turn those lines into seam lines that are straight and divide the strips into individual pieces. Make a few copies of your drawing and start coloring. (I've always liked coloring in the lines - but still think outside the box.) Before you know it - you have a pattern. Don't forget seam allowances when you cut your fabric. You are ready to go.
I wondered how you were going to use 7 fabrics to recreate a pattern that only used three. You might want to add another couple of greens for your bargello so its introduction in the colorway isn't too abrupt. Just my thoughts.

I wouldn't want to try one without a pattern. The heart looks easy. A wallhanging pattern is only $4.99 from epatternscentral.com by download. There is a tutorial on this site.

Your fabrics are gorgeous. If you don't like the pattern I wouldn't use it.

That pattern doesn't work because there are three colors - it works because there are 3 values. You can use as many fabrics as you want, as long as you have contrast between them.

So from the 7 original fabrics, there were 2 lights, 2 mediums (reds), 1 dark (green) to use for the feathered star.

The larger floral could have been used to fussy cut the backgrounds instead of using the white tone-on-tone (would have been a bit more interesting because EVERYONE uses the white tone-on-tone for background).
Or the bouquet motifs could have been fussy cut from the border fabric for the background squares, and/or could also have been used in the sashing between the blocks.

Every block doesn't have to be exactly the same. That sample picture is pretty....lame. The quilt could be so much more dynamic when there is something to cause your eye to look all over, rather than the same block over and over and over again. Not to mention how boring it is to sew the same exact thing over and over again.

While the original fabrics aren't in a style I use (I'm a lime green and purple kinda gal), I think they would have been lovely in that pattern. However, I also totally understand falling out of love with a pattern.

But the above really applies to any pattern/block.

I agree with the folks who mentioned that you have too many gorgeous fabric colors for the star to be successful.
